is it worth it ?

sometimes the people who say it doesnt pay to have a garden are the first to grab any extra that we grow, but it is not always the case, A lady not too far from us here in nj grew up growing a big garden, now she doesnt have a spot for a garden here, When we go to the garden in pa ,there is often huge zuke.and yellow squash from one weekend to the next, Sometimes I drop them off at her house, The other day she sent us a large tray of the best squash pattys we have ever tried and even if you dont like squash,Im pretty sure you would like these, As I was eating one I thouight to myself,Yes ,,,,, it was worth it !!

I bring the extra veggies from the garden and give them to my customers at the shop. The older folks that dont garden anymore really enjoy it, and they often stop by with baked treats from my garden . Always nice to have them sit and have a visit.

I had fresh zucchini, cukes and sweet corn yesterday. The eggs I eat are free range. Of course it is worth it!

Planning on a large garden when I get to retire to the farm. Love fresh veggies and already have one freezer. Told James we may have to get a second one when we get the garden going.

Larry, you've nailed it on the head, there is no substitute for garden produce, and I'll bet by virtue of the pictures you post and what you do off work hours has influenced many here and elsewhere to do the same.

I used to live a similar lifestyle, lived all over NJ for 15 years, from Wayne down to Mansasquan, and always like to mention that I lived in Brick & Wall, (townships LOL) and always wanted to return home here to enjoy the land and the life. Lived in Woodbridge in a small cape cod, and another small home both with small back yards, commute to NYC daily, Albany on weekends just to do the same things, wishing I could have that good paying job and come home everyday. I have seen most of PA, and I believe the areas near you if you are in Lehigh, are just something to appreciate. I used to deal with Eastern Exterior Wall Systems/ Duggan & Marcon many years back, visited their facility several times, had an uninsured motorist, in Easton PA, a single mom with 9 suckin puppies smash into the back of my F150, uninsured, I let her go, "merry christmas" (was holiday time) I said, was just a bumper and some hardware.

I think all of that what you do is worth it, its just ideal, I'm fighting to maintain that kind of life, with some land to enjoy, it comes at a cost, taxes and all but even the smallest garden sure can make a person believe they live like a king, you just can't do much better.

I have a shop in town that is across the alley from an assisted living housing apartments, mostly elderly people or handicapped!! I have taking been surplus tomatoes and cumcumbers over and leaving them at the office for several weeks!!! Yesterday one of the elderly women came over with a bowl of fresh peach cobbler desert, sure was good, she said it was for the produce that I have been leaving there!!! Have had several just walk over and says thanks!!! Yes its worth it!!!!
