What a difference a month makes

A month ago it was so dry, no rain, hay fields all brown I figured no second cutting of hay here in s.w. Pa. Then a couple weeks of rain and a couple days ago I baled second cut bluegrass double windrows in low gear with a slow low-gear tractor. Put out about 8 bales a minute.

I am hoping to send a photo of a nice plush pasture-if we ever get rain!

We finally got some rain this last weekend. I seemed to get a inch less then my neighbors. But still the first decent rain in about three month. Received 2-3/4. Could use more this weekend.

Same here. I checked a field of hay yesterday. Seeded last year. Only cut once this year, this'll be the second cutting. Aparently, from what I read, most on here would have wasted fuel cutting it again a month ago. That stuff looked just like the third does where I did cut the better seedings a month ago. Big green leaves, nearing knee high. Just a very few blossoms starting to come out. I wish I had a some pictures of it to show the folks who think the college boys are always right.
I cut 23 acres of older seeding yesterday. Second cutting. The grass has really come on it that,no doubt tripled the yield. I've got another 13 to knock down today.

Just the opposite here in sunny western Washington. Plenty of rain in May and June, made for a good (but late) first cutting, when the weather turned on the 4th of July.

And it hasn't rained since! (Not completely true- couple of sprinkles, maybe .03 inches each, but only enough to settle the dust.) Had to dig a hole with the backhoe to bury the old dog last night, pretty dry down there.
