Sweetffeet : Dark look results of fluidfilm

I don"t know how long it would last on a tractor stored outside, though I"d say pretty good as it leaves an oily film after you wipe it down. Make sure you use a lint free rag otherwise it will leave bits of lint stuck all over it. It"s made from lanolin, so your tractor will smell like a sheep, but it"s not a bad smell. 2 spray cans should be plenty to spray a regular. And it does leave a fine rich wet look to that old rust, and it brings out a rich, deep look to old paint as well. I like it well enough that I plan on using it on more tractors.

RegulaRog,

Thanks! I will look into it, and if not very expensive we can test it out on some "surplus" rust as we should have a piece of rusty metal around here somewhere.

Fluid film is a good product to prevent corrosion. I don't know about using it on the out side of a tractor. Fluid film never really dries and it is sticky.

JD Seller,
Thanks for your thougths. That is why I am thinking to test it out on a hunk of rusted junk (before applying to our Regular)... then let that piece sit sit out all winter with dirt blowing on it - then see what it looks like in springtime. Also, maybe let that piece sit out in the full sun and bake next summer before putting any on our tractor.

I've used Amsoil MPHD metal protector on bolt heads inside the hopper on a Vicon spreader used for fertilizer and nitrogen. It leaves a wax film that dries. I have to reapply about every 4 years as it wears off by the product being spread. It's also good on roller chains. I've never tried the regular MP so I can't give an opinion on it. The MPHD is good stuff.

If applied to a rusty tractor, does it give it that rich, dark appearance? Since it dries, it sounds better than fluidfilm. How much does it cost per can?

The HDMP leaves a brown film. Sort of like what guns would be stored in for long periods except it dries.

The regular MP I'm not sure of the color, if it has any color. The HDMP is only what I use.

It retails for $8.20 per can.

I order online. Had a NAPA in a small town near me that sold this brand of product. Might want to call around and see if anyone stocks it or can get it.

I spray the top of my mower decks with a product called corban 35. We use and lps at work in the bottom of aircraft cargo compartments. They both dry hard and have to be pressure washed to remove. They come in spray cans

I've heard a number of people that use WD-40.. A couple applications a year. Protects and makes it look "wet"

I had trouble finding Fluid Film went to 6 listed dealers.A spray can cost over 15.00 at an auto parts store. You can order in a case of 12 for 7.80 a can shipping paid.I didnt need that much. Most places are spraying the under side of cars and trucks for 100 bucks and only have 5 gallon pails.I doubt it will work for what you want.

I thought of Sweet Feet when I happened to flip to a channel where they were re-doing an old car that had a great deal of paint replaced with a rust covering on top of he trunk and roof. They said they were using automotive "Clear Coat" to keep it looking that way as a lot of people really liked the look.
