fell outta the utility trailer...

i have a 5x8 utilty trailer with 4ft plywood walls ringed with 2x4 i load with the 4500 and take to the dump.
Late saturday afternoon was wrk'in to get 2nd run to dump in b4 it closed at 4.
Cutting 6 to 8" thick pine limbs down to under 5ft long to lay in trailer so when i get to dump i can remove back wall of trailer and roll them out. Well i got the trailer about 2/3's deep and i am standing on these logs cutting one about 15 ft long that is resting over sided of trailer. Cut it down to size, drop down into trailer. Pull limb over side again and repeat intil limb done. Well i goto pull in some more of this limb that is hanging over the left side. Kill chainsaw, place it In very front of trailer. I grab a branch on this limb, my back to right side of trailer, standing in about the middle of trailer. Yank, yank, not moving so i give a real good pull. Snap. I go stumbling back a few feet branch in right hand. While trying to gain footing think "ur going over the side!" Immediately bent my knees to get down low and i hit the side right behind my knees and over i go.
Luckily my reflexes from my youth must of kicked in because as i fell butt first down over side i managed to grab the rail with my left hand. This caused the dropping back flip i was in to stop and i went into a right barrell roll. Came down on my right side rolling over onto my stomach. Once i hit the ground i did a complete roll and ended on face down legs towards front of trailer rest on my forearms. A bit stunned but unhurt i got up and went back to work.
Sunday AM my left arm did feel like a wookie tried to pull it off but it was usable.
All i can think is all those summers in suburbia flipping over fences while "pool hopping" thru the neighbors yards in a instance came back and saved me.
Other wise it would have been a header on the rip rap on edge of the gravel drive.

If you are like me, the first thing is to look around and see if anyone saw it. After that, check and see if anything is broken.

We cleared a fence row back in the spring. I was pulling a limb backwards and tripped over some of last year's corn stalks. Slow motion roll to the ground. My back was real sore for about a month until I played with a granddaughter. Must have twisted it right because it quit hurting.

petetherookie,
OUCH! Hope you are not sore for too long. Glad you did not do the head-plant on the ground, that would be bad (especially on rip rap rock).

Good thing you got the wife to think for ya!

LOL, Oh, I did look around when I got up. Do not think anybody saw it. No one said anything but then again only one of my neighbors talks to me anyway. Did not hear anyone laughing!
Amazed I did not get hurt. Besides the left arm I an not even soar yesterday or today.

In hind sight not going to stand in the trailer again once its above knee height.

Pete

I hate when that happens.

I've gotten up and walked away from some "interesting" falls in my day, and there's one thing I've always wondered about. I was on a tumbling team in high school, we'd put on exhibitions at halftime at basketball games, etc. I've often wondered if my activities on the tumbling team didn't "teach" my reflexes to roll with a fall instead of fighting against it.

Rick,
LOL, most people who know me would agree with that statement. Only a "select" few who "understand" me.

My wife merely "puts up with me" 'cause I am the father of her chillin's.

Pete

Goose,
I bet it does.

Only thing I thought in my head was "ur going over the side". Trained to get low when falling a long time ago. But grabbing the rail and twisting, rolling were pure reflex because right after saying to my self ur going over I was laying on the ground.

Tks all for your concern. I am fine.
Just reminds all of us middle aged warriors and Golden years to slow down, think and be safe.

Pete

Only thing worse would be someone there to take a video. I kinda did the same thing off my step deck semi trailer at a tractor show. WITH witness the only thing I could think of to say was TA DA ! I hope you recover fast.

"Tumbling team". Long time since I heard that term. My gf was on a tumbling team. About 1916 or so....

i dont think i would had told that ,,. happy healing ,,i think i mite trade your pain for the expense of a new rear tire i ruined when i snaged a sharp corner of steel tonite ,,all in a days work
