Life as I think it should be

As you guys know, I went back to work in July. Working 4 10s so I don't have enough home time to get the 2nd cutting mowed & baled on the week ends. Last week end, while talking to my neighbor, I mentioned that I probably wasn't gonna get a 2nd cutting this year because of work schedule. He kinda casually asked me what my plans were for this week end, which I didn't have any. He called me Tuesday night and asked me if I could bale some hay this week end. Told him I sure could if he wanted me to. Got home Thursday evening and had 7 fields (mine) on the ground that had been tedded and were ready to bale Friday. He used my equipment and is one of the few that I let use anything I have. He was here yesterday morning ready to rake for me and will get the bales hauled in this week sometime. Now, I ask you, Isn't that what being a neighbor is all about. Don't think you'd find something like that in the big cities. Hay production was about 25% of what it ws last year, but sure am thankful for what we got and for the neighbors we have here. Keith

You do have a good neighbor and that means you are also a good neighbor. Take care of that relationship they are rare these days.

Thats a great story, and glad to hear storys like that! Last weekend as we were ready to head home from PA my neighbor put a crate silver queen sweetcorn in my truck.

Yeah, I wouldn't call your good furtune a country vs city thing, I once had neighbors who would use your equipment without asking, break stuff and leave it or worst yet sell it for beer money, and tell you they don't know nothing about it.
I had my camper repaired in the city lately, a bunch of down on thier luck kids all renting one small shop and borrowing each other's tools and brains, and it works out well for all, including the customer.
When I sold my big place the final lookers -became the buyers- asked what I thought the most valuable asset of the farm was... I told them the neighbors. They would be surrounded by decent people, and that is priceless.

Great to hear there are other people like that in your area. It is like that here in the Upper Arkansas Valley. It is almost a game who can help who the most. Sometimes we have to call around and see where our equipment is.

Glad to hear there's still some around there...... I feel bad cause I got a little upset with the neighbor kid's dad for cutting and baling a piece for me... I didn't let him know, and really appreciated it, just was a lousy timing. It worked out and I had help to load it, but it's still settin on wagons with tarps on them.... Just swamped with things that have to get done all at once plus work and dodge rain....

One roof is on now tho and the next will be on tuesday with a stall extended, then can coast a little til the folks can do the rafters on the house....

That is very true. Life should be about living for yourself AND each other. I live in a town home complex, pay association fees every month for various tasks (in this case I will use snow removal). I understand that sometimes the snowfall amounts are hard for the companies to keep up with, some of my neighbors don't own shovels. I take the liberty every winter to shovel my driveway and walkway, both my neighbors driveways and walkways, as well as start working on the large staircase in front of the complex. I live here, I may as well do something.... Plus it helps keep my muscles in shape.

I do the same thing with the '41 Case SC when neighbors get stuck in the road.. Pull 'em out, for me it is just for fun. They offer money, I always decline.

I just figure what goes around comes around, and even if it doesn't, at least I feel good knowing I helped out my neighbors.
