I have a Cub tractor which I don't use very much so the battery go down on it if I don't charge it every month or so. The battery was new this spring and I unhooked it but it still goes down. My question is if I charge it up and put a battery maintainer on it will this keep the charge up on it.It is a 6 volt battery.

Something wrong with that battery when it self discharges in a few weeks.
If parked in a well lighted area. Solar panels are cheap enough to use as maintainers.

Re: solar panel for battery maintenance, I did use one over the winter. come spring the alligator clips were corroded away. Consider dielectric grease when hooking it up....sl

Thats why they make hydrometers so you can read the sp level of the cells you dont know if you have a good charge or not and which cell is bad if any or do you have bad connections.

I have had 2 6 batteries with a weak center cell.center cell would read half charge while the other cells read full charge. My hydrometer cost 89 cents.Cant understand why a hydrometer is unknown to most on the forum.

We carried this View Check hydrometer in our tool boxes. I also have one of the cheaper ones. They gave me this hydrometer when I retired. Hal
