I see kruser has been wondering what we've been up to around here so I guess I will show everyone.
We have been very busy to say the least. The dry weather has us hauling water to a pasture several miles away a couple times a week. We had cows escaping out of one pasture everyday for about a week. Been waiting and waiting for the custom silage guy and trying to work on a little corral project along with our normal everyday stuff.

This is or corral/working setup partially complete. A couple more days and we will have it all done. Maybe yet this week!

We spent sunday monday and tuesday chopping silage. The custom guy got here and we did our three bags, then helped with three more for one friend and one bag for yet another friend.

None of us have silos. We put the corn silage in bags. It pretty simple. Put the plastic on the back of the bagger. Put the back stop in place and start filling.

Just pull the wagon up next to the bagger and it goes up the conveyer and into hopper where the impeller packs the silage. The little red box applies innoculant to help the ensiling porcess.

The finished product. In 6 hours we bagged over 800,000lbs of silage.

It takes about 3.5 minutes to fill a wagon.

And it takes about 5.5 minutes to unload a wagon into the bagger.

Just a couple of pics from the feedlot. Morning and night everyday the cattle get fed, no days off.

These guys are always happy to see me coming!

Since we are done with silage now we have a place to spread manure so I started that project about 5 oclock tonight. Job security is not a problem for anyone around here.

I can usually tell how busy we are just watching wrigley. He has been asleep at my feet for over an hour, not a peep. I guess we have been busy!

You must be doing something rihgt- Wrigley's got a big smile. Question, how do you unload the sileage from the bags?

I always enjoy your pics from your farm of the cattle and crops. You guys are always very busy. You sure have a nice looking farm. Well taken care of, that's for sure. Wrigley's picture made me smile. He looks like he has had a long day. Thanks again.

Good question. Simply, we use the tractor and loader. Just cut the bag open and scoop up what you need everyday. In the winter we feed over a ton a day to the cows alone. We feed a mix of silage, gluten, hay and corn stalks along with other mineral and supplements all together in the vertical mixer.

Haven't been around silage much but always been interested in it. Thanks for sharing the photos. I was curious how you unload the bags too, and how do you dispose of all that plastic?

Questions:

1) Did that TriTown fireman help you out?
2) What's your corn and beans look like?
3) Been to the Warehouse lately?
4) Birthday coming up?
5) Get your 4 wheeler replaced/fixed?
6) Still a Cub fan??????

Glad to see Wrigley is keeping things in order!

As usual great pics, good to hear from you, looks like you have some rain to help your crops out. Cattle look good also. Pet wrigley for me. Gregg

My cure for cows that keep getting out is a trip to the sale barn. However, if you are going to put them in that lot with the guard rail fencing I don't think they wiil get out.

Hope the dry weather hasn't interferred too much with your operation.

Bought a few 300 pounds heifers last winter, sold them recently. They had doubled , roughly, in size on grass.

Well lets see....
Yes, travis was here to help us out when he wasnt working of course.

Corn, its kinda all over the place. The good, the bad and the ugly!!!

Beans, look good but the fat lady aint singing yet so anything goes.

Have not been to the warehouse in maybe three months or more sadly.

Yes, the birthday is sneaking up on me again.

We patched the 4 wheeler up and it is operational once again, good to have it going.

Of course I'm a cubs fan. I'm a lifer!!
