Had a chuckle yesterday watching TV

How many of you saw the Pawn Stars episode with the 'corn shucker' last evening?

They went to this guy's house to look at a contraption the guy called a 'corn shucker', which really was an old hand crank corn sheller.
He had an ear of corn in his hand and he said "you drop it into the top of the shucker". "Then you crank the handle and it takes the kernals off of the cob and they fall out the bottom".Then he said "it cleans the cob right up and you throw it to the pigs". He said "they love the cob and they eat it right up". He never did explain what you do with the corn. That's when I flipped the channel. I didn't wait to see if they wanted to buy it. I remember seeing this a year ago or so, so it's an old re-run. I kind of wondered how this guy in Vegas ended up with a corn sheller in his garage.

We never had one, but an old bachelor neighbor had one beside the crib that he used to shell corn for the hogs. When I was a kid I'd walk to his place just to crank his sheller for him. He made me quit when the bushel basket was full. That's all he needed for the day so the cranking had to stop. Jim

I don't really watch TV, but I have seen that show.
Haven't seen that episode, so what was he asking for it?

Did you notice they used an ear of sweetcorn, probably from Safeway? Needless to say it didn't shell. Just made corn mush.

It would be interesting to know if they bought it, and if so, how much they paid. Might be worth it to run my grandpa's old Blackhawk sheller out there. Maybe if I went at the lunch hour I could catch Chum working the front desk.

This sheller has a 1903 patent date, which is about the time my grandpa started farming. I've run many an ear through it myself to feed the hogs. I even still have the original wooden box grandpa attached it to.

I imagine that the corn sheller that I cranked for Dad is still in the basement at the farm; my brother never gets rid of anything like that.

I remember the pisode from some time ago, he was asking a ton, they didn"t buy it.

I watched the episode also. They didn't offer him anything for it.....said it would be to dangerous to have in the pawn shop. They thought someone could lose a hand in it if a couple of people would be messing around with it in the shop.

Yep. I remember that episode. Even posted about it. Started a big discussion about what "shucking" even was. It had to be a regional thing, there never was any "shucking" going on around here, just husking and shelling.

Kind of like the show Pickers, every thing is so unreal you keep watching just to see what stupid thing they do next. I find it amazing that the Picker guys never encounter a snake or even a bee when they are digging thru this stuff.

As I recall, they figured it didn't work very well, because it just make a mess of the ear of fresh sweet corn they put in. They didn't buy it- would take up too much space in the shop, and somebody would end up shelling their hand in it.

One of the few shows I watch, other than Fox news and sports. Don't know why I like it- maybe because its not "mean-spirited", like so many shows these days.
