My 1941 Farmall H with a straight pipe is on the blower while my friends 1943 H is on the box unloading straw.

One reason is if you have an auger or pressure pot for getting manure out of the barn. Long straw in any amount will plug them up. We also find by chopping, it absorbs better than baled straw.

Plus it's a matter of what works for you.

Way easier to clean barn in the summer months. We use baled straw in the winter as it doesn't collect as much manure on it and it doesn't freeze into such a solid chunk over winter. Ease of spreading a little earlier in the spring for long straw and the chopped stuff doesn't matter cause it never freezes so we just make it easier on me which has to run the scraper in the barn. I know, maybe I am just selfish :D

That oat straw? Dad just cut a marsh today that we sue for bedding, so I'm hoping I can get the new to us 892 out there for a test run. Dad may do the chopping though as I'm going on vacation with my brothers, so then he'll just hook onto the Fox 3000 and I'll have to test it out on a little bit of 4th crop. Just want to prove it out a little bit before I put the corn head on.
