I hope someone can shed some light on my battery problem. I have a batt in a 2000 ford (1973). Not all the time but part of the time you can shut the tractor off and leave it set for a day or two. While it is setting it will spew batt acid vapors and fluid out the caps and all over the tractor. How in the world can this happen? The batt is 7 years old. I am going to buy a new batt. but I don"t see how a batt can do that after it has been off and setting for 12 to 24 hours. Thanks Sam

Sulfation of plates shorts between plates in a cell. The remainder of the cell is still an active battery, and discharges through the "sulfer bridge"" this heats the cell, and produces hydrogen. It is a sure sign of a dead cell, and dangerous hydrogen buildup can occur. Be careful when removing it not to spark terminals. Jim

replace it now!!!
wear a full face sheild with googles over your eyes when removing the cables and handling the battery
those batteries do blow up
spewing battery acid everywhere,
all over your face, etc
good luck
Ron
