3 pt brush hog questions

I have done a lot of brush hogging with tow behind mowers, on a John Deere A, Ford 800 and a Ford 6600 which I could adjust manually or through the hydraulics, but my neighbor with a 4WD Ford compact tractor has a 3 pt brush hog, I can not keep the front from digging into the ground when I turn, I have adjusted the top link out, and changed the rear wheel position several times. The 3pt wants to go up or down and will not stay in a middle position no matter where I set the stop or the flow valve, is this the tractor or me?

The three point position should remain constant once set.

You can compensate for the lift anomaly by using limiter chains.

I have no experience with that tractor. With most 3 point hitches you can choose draft control, position control, or some combination. Any one I've ever had anything to do with was like that. Any one that didn't wouldn't be much good to me.

I had the same problem with my MF 203 I could never trust it to stay where put. So, I dropped it all the way down. Then adjusted the the cutting height with the manual lifting boxes. You may need to add one, as most have only one. Also you might need to get different threaded forks to have the necessary adjustement up.I only raise it to make turns, or to raise over something. I know where it is at all times when down. I have been using this for years. I figured this is easier for me than to tear into my tractor to find the problem, only to have it happen again Now my JD 401 will stay put where set. Stan

There is what I have set up and it works good.

Never seen that, I use a chain top link, that allows some float, but your method is better yet.

Thank you all, The lifting arms already have holes drilled in them, and I can install chains on clevis's. Great ideas here.
