A Gas Tank Too Big To Handle....

I don't suppose anyone here might know how one person might be able to slosh out a 50 gallon gas tank (pictured above in it's natural habitat)? There is about 3" of crud on the yard stick when I check the gas. Is there something on the market that will dissolve everything in the bottom of the tank so I can just drain it or am I going to have to invest in a ton of Wheaties?

Thanks,
Mike

If you had a vacuum pump and an old milker bucket maybe? Drop a hose down in it and suck it out?

I would drain it from the bottom, then blow air in, do it again, till all the gas is out. If it were me, at that point, I'd prolly buy a plastic gas tank, as close to that size, or mount a 55 gallon plastic drum, in it's place. The baffles keep the sloshing down, but if you fill it up less, I don't think it would be too bad.

not to much you can do with it other than remove it and haul it in to a shop and get it steamed out. that one is easy removal.

if you spend some time with it and you have a hotsy your good to go. will require flipping and turning the tank as you go. should be a drain in the btm. also to remove. you'll get it, it just takes time to get the junk rinsed out. good luck.

If you parked it so that the back end is high you could siphon most of it out. I have had very good luck cleaning tanks by siphon.

How about removing it and slinging it upside down, under a loader bucket, so it can be shook back and forth! A long nylon choker should support it ok!

Have the bands loose so the tank is ready to come off. Call a friend and tell him you are treating him to lunch. On the way back from lunch have him help you throw the tank in the back of the pick-up.

Head over to your local hardware store and get yourself a couple gallons of MEK (methyl ethyl ketone). I think you will be impressed with the results. It wont cure your rust (you'll need phosporic acid for that) but it will cut all that old gas crud.

neat looking machine! would like to see more pics.
How fast does it consume those 50 gallons?

Thanks Karl, it's a self-propelled Gehl 188 Chop King. It came with the TR333 3 row narrow corn head. When I chopped bales last year, it sucked through a half a tank in a little over two hours.
