tractor oil pressure problem

I have an AC 6140 that does not pick up oil pressure for up to a minute after starting. After it picks up oil, it has fair oil pressure. It has done this off and on for several years now with it getting slightly worse now. Anymore, it does it every time if it has been shut off for more than an hour or so. It used to get better with a fresh filter, but I can't tell any difference anymore. I have checked the parts diagrams, and I don't think there is any kind of check valve. Is the pump just weak and needing replaced (if it's even available)? any thoughts? thanks- Morgan

On my Long tractor I had that problem and it was the oil pump, which has been replaced.

I had a similar issues with a mid-80's Chrysler minivan with the 2.2 liter engine. Replacing the oil pump solved the problem.

It could be just a bad sensor if your gauge is electric.
On a mechanical guage, it could be the line is plugged or has a kink in it.
If the usual 1/8" line is long, with cold oil it might take a while for the pressure to reach the gauge(i got that happen with one of my cockshutts)

I your oilpump is weak i think you would've blown that engine a long time ago

Oil pumps are positive displacement pumps they don't need to
be primed. If the get a worn then they do exactly what yours is
doing the only cure is a new pump.

Thanks for the thoughts. It looks like I have to remove the loader, front end, timing cover, engine, clutch and flywheel to remove the sump to get at the pump. Looks like this might be a job for cooler weather.
