John T,

First... hope your well situation gets resolved in an economical way.

Second... a link to a song called "Time". My husband and I were listening to songs in the shop last night - the nostalgia of this one made me think of the guy who posted Times Of Your Life in a reply (searched and it was you). We have this CD called OLD DOGS with Bobby Bare, Waylon Jennings, Jerry Reed and Mel Tillis. I don't think these songs were ever played on the radio. I believe the poet Shel Silverstein wrote all/most of the songs. [Also a lot more good songs on CD - which may or may not be on youtube.]
TIME by the Old Dogs

Great song, Sweetfeet; don't know that I've ever heard it---and I'm a guy who has tried to get anything Bobby Bare ever recorded. I think he is one of the most under-appreciated of the old country artists. Remember the line "......'because this morning she's just leavin', but come sundown she'll be gone."

WOW, a great song and one that I hadnt heard. Im into Nostalgia as you well know, Im adding this one to my I Pod list

"If you ever wonder why you ride the carousel, you do it for the stories you can tell"

Ol John T

I should have posted the entire chorus, to put those lines in meaningful context:

"And it hurts to know it's over, but the hurtin's just begun; 'cause this mornin' she's just leavin', but come sundown she'll be gone."

JerryS,

I do not think these songs ever got radio play. We bought our CD on e bay because my dad had picked up a copy in some truckstop (songs are more his era than ours, but we still like them). I just looked and it is also available on i tunes.

We like nearly every song on the CD. You may be able to find others on youtube for just listening to them.

Here is a song list:
*Cut the Mustard
Elvis Has Left the Building
*I Don't Do It No More
*I Never Expected
Me and Jimmie Rodgers
*Old Dogs
Rough on the Livin'
She'd Rather Be Homeless
*Still Gonna Die
*Time
Young Man's Job

John T,

You always have neat quotes!

Glad you enjoyed it the song link.

Look at my reply to JerryS for a song/track listing from the Old Dogs CD.

JerryS,

That makes it make more sense.

If that song is meaningful to you... you may like the Old Dogs "She'd Rather Be Homeless".

Thanks, that was from The stories we can tell (or something like that) by Jimmy Buffett

"If it all blows up n goes to H ll think of all the stories we can tell" same song

"Remember When" by Alan Jackson is a tear jerker for us empty nesters

Similar to your song "Only Time" by Enya I believe is a haunting melody

Ive posted this many times, it does bring tears to audience members, the most beautiful Christmas song ever

The Ave Maria by Mirusia Louwerse

John T,

Your musical taste varies widely... from Parrot Head music (kindred spirit here - I love much of Buffett's music) to an aficiando of opera. Interesting.

See if you can find "Sending the Old Man Home" by Buffett on youtube - that will make a grown man cry.

Well, Sweetfeet, you really started something: I dialed up 'homeless" and discovered all these other great Bare songs I hadn't heard in ages, so I grabbed the old acoustic off the wall and for the past two hours I've enjoyed a "get re-acquainted" session. I'd forgotten just how great this guy is, and how much I miss those good old "story" songs, a la George Jones, Tom T. Hall, Claude King, Johnny Horton, et al.

One of the songs you referenced, "Elvis has left the building"---haven't listened to it yet but that statement originated here in my town, made by a local announcer. Elvis got his start here in the Louisiana Hayride. I was listening when he made his first broadcast.

That's neat!

My husband used to play guitar but gave it up when we first bought our farm due to full time factory job, farming 80 acres and farrowing hogs... no time for music. A few years ago, he donated it to an auction at church - so now it is a done deal for sure, he won't play again.

SweetFeet, Thanks for posting that. That was great! Problem is, when I look up something like that on youtube I end up listening to half the others listed on the sidebar. I'm gonna have to try and find that CD. Now if you will excuse me, I think I have something in my eye.

ShadetreeRet,

Glad you enjoyed it. It's ok... when we listen to it, my husband and I both get something in our eyes too. Strange, huh?

So "just enjoy the ride, in your trip(s) around the sun" (Jimmy Buffett). 'Nother good song.

John T,

Forgot to say, that we have "Remember When"... great song and a tear-jerker (and our nest is only 1/3 empty, we still have at least 6 years to go before the last baby flies the nest).

Also the Ave Maria by Mirusia was really nice, even though I am not into opera very much. She does have a really beautiful, clear voice.

You may like a singer named Nana Mouskouri. When I was a nanny fresh out of high school, my boss used to play her music a lot during the day. I think it is in French, but really nice to listen to - even though I did not understand a word of it.

(quoted from post at 18:46:01 08/06/12) I should have posted the entire chorus, to put those lines in meaningful context:

"And it hurts to know it's over, but the hurtin's just begun; 'cause this mornin' she's just leavin', but come sundown she'll be gone."

Great song. Written by the great Kris Kristofferson.
