Looks like its finally getting the attention of the national news. Saw this on the internet.

"ST. LOUIS (AP) — Nearly 220 counties in a dozen drought-stricken states were added Wednesday to the U.S. government"s list of natural disaster areas as the nation"s agriculture chief unveiled new help for frustrated, cash-strapped farmers and ranchers grappling with extreme dryness and heat.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture"s addition of the 218 counties means that more than half of all U.S. counties — 1,584 in 32 states — have been designated primary disaster areas this growing season, the vast majority of them mired in a drought that"s considered the worst in decades."

Yes, I saw that also. The thought occurred to me, will they continue to allocate corn for the manufacture of ethanol, or will they allocate the entire crop, (such as may be available) for food production? As a side, my daughter runs a packaging machine for a large cereal manufacturer, she told me the other that they are already paying more for some grains.

The corn for food is still there and the by-products of the ethanol are fed to livestock therefore there isnt any shortage of corn and there wont be any we mite not export as much. Get the facts and stop listening to biased news reporting most dont know where the supply is going and wouldnt understand anyway. Way too many believe the corn is wasted after removing the alchol just dont know where the 600 plus things corn is used and dont even try to find out.

Yep a box cereal will go up a buck again.

If the cost of grain doubles the cost of grain in a $4.00 box of cereal went from 30 cents to 60 cents. They will go up a buck anyway you watch and see.

Kellog Co said they hedged their grain purchases and don't expect it to increase their costs for the upcoming year.

in respect to those of you experiencing the drought, please accept my opinion with a grain of salt. When I start hearing news reports daily about something bad, I now assume the issue is being hyped for the proffit of some group. Since I have livestock, I am NOT that group. I don't know where all this goes, but it is not good for the American consumer or taxpayer. Maybe for grain brokers, but no one else.
