Does any one know if the Van Horn Truck Museum in Iowa is still in operation? Will try calling numbers I found online later today, but just wondering if anyone knows if it still exists.

I think they sold most of the trucks, but here is a couple of phone numbers you might try.Van Horn Auto Parts, 641 423 0655, 800 392 5600. Hope this helps.Let us know what you find out, please Harold

If you are traveling there is a real nice new truck museum at the Iowa 80 truckstop in Walcott Ia. They are just a few miles west of the quad cities at exit 284 on I80. With the museum and the store you could spend half a day there. It is the largest truckstop in the world.

Looks like the Museum closed in 2000, and the collection was auctioned in late June 2002? Sounds like he had a great collection, wish I would have seen it before it was sold off.

Herald P IA,

Thanks for the numbers. I called the parts store, they said the museum is closed.

Bummer! Husband went there with his dad, probably 15+ years ago when our kids were real small. We were wanting to take our 2 youngest kids to see it.

1130Leo,

Thanks for the info.

I guess it was really neat. Husband saw it a long time ago... and we wanted to take our kids there - but obviously we have missed that boat by a longshot.

Some of the former collection is displayed at the Heritage Park of North Iowa in Forest City.

They have several museums there and have one of the larger collections of steam and prairie tractors. Contact them on the website and set up an appointment to see it, or come to the show they have in September 14-16.

JimEvans,

THANKS so much for the info! I will tell my husband... looks like a very interesting show.
