Gave an armadillo some lead last night

You know them things can be very fast and when you shoot one just above there tail it sure will take off and bounce all over the place trying to get away from you. I did stop it when it tried to get into the wood chuck hole I has closed off with the lid of a 5 gal bucket. It got an extra big head ache then

you need to get a mean dog,be cheaper than all that ammo!LOL back when I lived full time at the farm,i had a little high standard auto that shot 22 shorts.i carried that thing so much that even now when i see a critter i grab for it. when we moved closer to town because of my wife health,i had to quit wearing it and sold it.I have a old colt 32-20 i carry if i think of it,but ive kind of got out of the habit.

Well I do have 3 dogs but the problem is they stay in the house and the barn cats do not seen to want to take on the coons and armadillos for me LOL. Been using a 410 most of the time since I can swing it up with one hand and fire as I swing it around. But I am down to about 8 or 9 rounds for it so the boy set the 20 gauge out for me that has almost a full box of shells. My 12 gauge I have 2 plus boxes of shells but I can not swing that and shot one handed because it is to heavy and to long and has to much kick

An armadillo goes around digging holes all over the lawn and garden and in doing so they in turn dig up the plants which of course in turn kills the plants. I have lost a few squash plants and a couple pepper plants due to them digging up the garden. I have some places that have holes the size of a basketball and if you are not watching close that is enough to cause a person to go to the hospital due to a sprained ankle or broken leg

Ya 20 gauge and 12 gauge cost a lot less then the 410 and or 16 gauge stuff does. Sort of funny how that is but guess it is in this case supply and demand

they dig up everything they can is the main problem, lots of folks dont like em because they've been known to carry the plauge. my main problem is skunks and badgers. those badgers will dig a hole 3 foot around and six feet deep to get one gopher. hard on tractors and equipment when you run off in one you dont see. tear the heck out of a combine header.

old, did you ever shoot an armadillo with one of your smaller handguns. Would a 22 varmit rifle penetrate that armor they have. Or would it take that ol faithful .45 to do the job.

Shoot one a week or so ago with a 22 long rifle shell. I do not know if I hit it once or twice but did hit it since I found it the next day dead as a door nail

Just came in from the garden and the one last egg plant I had that had a nice flower on it and looked like it might produce some fruit had been dug up last night by an armadillo. My wife was none to happy about that either

We had an old single shot .410 that we used for a varmint gun. Just point in the general direction and pull the trigger.

Yep That was what I did and I guess the first shot was a tad low but it had the high ground and I had the low ground so was aiming sort of flat instead of down

This may just be me bein ignant.... But, wouldn't it be better to just learn to shoot in the first place then shoot the pests in the head with a 22? Cheaper, nothing suffers, and you don't take a chance of shootin your foot off....

Just a thought......

Dave you ever notice I no longer answer any of your posts??? Please be nice and stop bugging me since all you ever do is attack me. I can in fact shoot well and have the navy metal to prove it. When was the last time you tried to shoot something that was on the run at midnight with just a flash light to see by.
STOP ANSWER ME SINCE ALL YOU CAN DO IS MAKE FUN OF ME AND ATTACK ME
so leave me the F alone

Sorry Rich... If you think calling your BS is attacking and making fun, guess that's your problem. Feel free to answer any of my posts, I appreciate the help you gave in the past and look forward to productive input in the future. I have or had no hard feelings, you'll sleep better if you get over yours. And try not to be so hateful... It hurts my feelings...

As I said I do not answer any of your posts unless you answer one of mine. I gave up on helping you when you started your attacks on me about a year ago so please just leave me and my posts alone

Not to sound too ignorant or just plain dumb, I have never seen an armadillo or badger (except in the zoo). I would love to see them. I live in NE Indiana and all we get are groundhogs, skunks, and oppossums and of course racoons. Nothing exciting. I bet it would be fun to be out there plinking on those critters. That would be a fun weekend. Haha. I need to get out more.

32 years ago when I moved to this area of Missouri there where no such thing as armadillos here. But seems they got tired of being Texas speed bumps and have moved up here so we now have to deal with the holes they dig all over the place and up root things in the garden and if your not careful you can even end up with a sprained ankle or worse. By the way if the weather keep it up you may see them up there soon

You're right Missouri isn't that far away. Rifle says will go way up then. My buddies and I always talked about driving out west to go and shoot prairie dogs but never did. That would be a blast in my opinion.

Happy shooting

Back some 50 plus years ago I can just barely remember being in Wyoming and my dad and older brother caught one of them P. dogs and my brother had the bright idea to put it in the car we had at the time. It got out real fast when some one opened the door

Old, since we've successfully sent you some of our armadillo's, we're sending fire ants your way now.
I hear they've been in Arkansas a few years and may already be in Missouri by now.
The only good thing about them is they have pretty much gotten rid of the ticks and chiggers here.

Then next will be killer bees.
