Its finally our turn

Everyone on this forum who bales hay has had their hay rained on at one time or the other.

We started baling our own hay several years ago and up to today our hay had never been rained on.

At least twice this year we had a thunderstorm move through less than an hour after getting hay put up in the hay barn. Looks like our luck ran out today.

James cut the coastal field on Tuesday, no rain in the forecast, and was supposed to rake it today.

I looked at weather.com this morning and they reported 2.72 inches of rain so far.

Guess it was just our turn. Oh well.

We'll let it dry good, rake it and bale. Its for my personal use anyway. Win some, lose some.

More like win most, lose one! Atleast youre not crabby about. Hate it when people whine about weather. Makes me crabby. : )

Sorry to hear about you mowed hay getting drowed. If you farm or ranch, your gonna get burned every once in awhile. Weather is always the joker. You can do everything agronomically correct but if you don"t get the right weather, it"s all for naught!
The real gamblers don"t go to Las Vegas; they farm or ranch!

The rain is bittersweet. We can always use rain in July/Aug. So although we had hay on the ground, rain means we"ll definitely get a better cutting off the other fields in Aug.

My wife baled hay last night. We finished about 15 minutes before a 2 hour rain. But it also rained on it yesterday morning and caused a 3 hour drying delay. I've been doing 2nd cut for the last 3 weeks on & off, and EVERY batch has been rained on. These t-storms hit and miss and hit but the alfalfa has got to be cut. What's a fool to do?

I put up 530 rounds with no rain.
Got 50 some acre heavy alphalpha/grass mix on the ground, cut a week ago,..been rained on daily since, rain forecasted of and on for the rest of the week. :(
I have another 100 acre still standing

better find another tedder, you'da been rolled and in the barn by friday.......

We found this year that our geldings did much better on 2 year old hay and hay that got a little rain.....

So what's the difference between rain an dew. We have wait tidily noon to bail hay and sometimes have retake it to dry. It was a month late this to even start haying because of the wet weather.

I've had hay lay in the feild and get rained on every other day for three weeks and the cattle still ate most of it. Around here we say "It's better than snowballs". It will look alot greener in January than it does now.

Hate to hear about your hay getting wet. I wish I had some hay to get wet. It is so dry here and hay is high if you can find it.
