Empire Tractor - pics from show

Pics of an Empire Tractor we saw at the Root River show last week. Somehow I found its simplicity of design attractive. I even really like the big old square in the center of rear tires... looks kind of like they just welded a supersized nut in there.

I've never seen an Empire, so took several pics. We watched him plow with a 16" 1 bottom IH plow and he pulled it real easily.

It uses a 4cyl, flathead Jeep, trans, etc. The Empire was basicly made from surplus WW2 leftover Jeep parts...They also had a very fast road gear.

I'd bet that the square centers are not original. Probably had rusted out loop rims that PO could not find replacements for so he took what he could find and welded flat stock in instead of having separate centers. Flat centers are very rare because dished is so much stronger than flat and dished gives you more track width adjustment options. JMHO

Brown Dirt Cowboy,

That red/white tow truck also belongs to the owner of the Empire. And he had a brown jeep there with a buzz saw mounted on it. Apparently he collects all things Jeep. (I didn't hear everything he said to my husband... but having a Jeep engine would explain why he has this tractor then).

Delta Red,

Yes, he said something about war surplus. I believe he said it was a G O V backed contract to ship them to 3rd world countries. But the company went broke according to this gentleman.

Showcrop,

Maybe you are right... does seem like they would have some dish to them. Now I will have to google images to see what I can find out.

jackinok,

I agree, it does look homemade...is the same thing my husband said. He did not care for it so much.

A very good friend had one, and I would work on it for him. The last time he wasn't able to help much with the repair because of Cancer, but he said the tractor was mine when he was gone (about two months later). But he forgot to put it in writing, and tell the wife. Had a willys overland engine 4 cyl 25 hp at db. 3000 made.

With the belt pully sitting side ways to the tractor like that, seems like it would be hard to tighten and line up the belt. Guess you'd have to move the machine it was hooked to, if possible..

DeltaRed,

Thanks for verifying wheel design!

Still have to look them up in addition to Big 4's just to see what I can learn about them.

Jimmy,

SweetFeets are very elusive critters. Difficult to get photos of them because 99.999 percent of the time they are behind the camera and not in front of it. (SMILE)

Ok, was just having fun - "cuz I'm so much cooler online". LOL (it is a funny song by Brad Paisley, look it up on you tube sometime. *Actually that song reminds my husband of his own brother.)

Here is pic of a SweetFeet... but I turned it into a pencil drawing with photo editing software. Sweetfeets are not only elusive... they just really don't like pics of themselves.

Tony Vidlak,

After you posted about the belt pulley... I had to look at the pictures twice to find it. I was looking at the sides of the tractor. LOL.

Wheat Farmer,
Nice of you to help out a friend. Would have been cool if you had ended up with it.

SweetFoot, I Googled that tractor's name and found over a dozen different pics. They all looked pretty much the same. I think the changes I did see were owner applied.

I would be cool to have one...good luck with it.
