Routine change

Forcast for tomorrow is 109. Weather man said to break our drought we would need over 11 inches of rain to fall on every square inch of ground. Ain't going to happen. He also said he doesn't see us getting any significant rain through fall.

Got me thinking about how much my routine has changed. I have the luxury of lots of shed space so very little sits out. I have noticed lately that I leave things out without worry. I don't bother rolling up the windows on the grain truck if it has to sit out. I spend about two hours a day watering to keep the garden and the 20 new trees I planted from dying. I usually work outside until noon and then come in and can something or work in front of a fan. Lots of nights it's watermelon for dinner. Used to always shut the gate at night cause the dog would run off if there was a storm. Haven't done that in months as it hasn't stormed. Realized the other day my broilers that are due to butcher in three weeks have never seen rain and probably won't.

How have your routines changed?

Market garden+ 100 degrees+ no rain= water,water,water,water,etc.

We are feeding hay already as there is no grass to speak of. For some reason the weeds in the pasture look to be doing just fine! I'm not used to feeding hay and sweating!

The biggest routine change is the amount of time it takes me to get up. In the past I would allow myself a slow wake up and couple cups of coffee at this time of the summer. Now I want to be out working as soon as I can see. I can usually keep going until about 2pm and then I've had enough. Sometimes not that long.
