Look em up on the US Department of Commerce I think......they will have info if they have ever been fined for misleading people on their products and if they have been sued. Most of the mechanic in a bottle folks have a long history of fine and legal action against them. Most often they settle out of court to keep from getting bad press.

Like most of their and similar products, they are marketed to make profits for service departments. Check your owners manual, you will find most of the services they reccomend are not reccomended by the manufacturers. That said they probably do no harm and around here they do a pretty decent job of honoring their warranties. It's up to you if you want to spend your money. Most manufacturers have gone to great lengths to use synthetic lubes in transmissions and axles to limit the need for these services. To me they are mostly a waste of money. If they can show you your fluid and it looks, smells like it should be changed, then you probably should. If it is just "time" to change it all you are doing is lining someones pockets.Check your owners manual, it is a good read, better yet show it to the person who is trying to sell you these services and see how they react, that might really help you decide.

I own an automotive repair business. I've been repairing cars for thirty five years now. Most of the mechanic-in-a-can products I consider to be snake oil. In my opinion, BG is different. Their trans additive works very well for SOME trans issues. I've had good success with their injector cleaning system again, sometimes. Their a/c products I use on a daily basis. That said, I've never used their oil additives, and I don't know how one would quantify if they are effective. The company and their representatives have been first rate to deal with over the years.

I cant vouch for that one,but i do use lucas oil treatment in a few things. heres why i do.bought a 87 ford pickup, some brilliant young man had put a oil pressure guage on it,which is ok, but it had a plastic line. now this truck is worn out almost no oil pressure at all.but i figure for $150 i could drive it till it blew up and get my money back in scrapiron.so i changed the oil and just happened to add a quart of lucas because it was given to me years ago.driving to farm in it (because boy had my regular truck) plastic line got against header and it pumped every bit of oil out of engine.about 20 miles to town and i was more than a little upset so i just laid the hammer down and headed in. pulled in to the first station, crimped plastic line and put a piece of baling wire around it filled it with six quarts of oil and came on home, been driving it nearly every day since and its still running. was it the additive?cant say,but i know that engine ran at least 20 miles with very little or no oil and it still doesnt burn any, still doesnt have oil pressure either.didnt fix anything, but it may have helped save it.

i was told once, and cant say its true or false, that most of these oil additives are basicaly the same stuff that they add to oil to make it thicker,or a multi grade.

What if I put this stuff in and my engine grenades 500 miles down the road? Well, my truck DOES have 175,000 miles on it... Was it the snake oil? Was it normal wear and tear? Was it just a coincidence?

I know what most of you would say if it were your truck: You would say the snake oil caused it, and you would take every opportunity to bad mouth any snake oil product.

The reality is, there is NO WAY to PROVE if the snake oil helped, hurt, or did nothing. That is what these guys are counting on to protect them from liability.

I have been working with oil formulations for over 30 years now and if you are using a good oil, you don't need an additive. We used to survey additives and we found that less than 2% of them ever worked. The ones that the additives worked with were the cheaper grades of oil.

I don't push their engine oil additives but use BG fuel fuel system and induction cleaners,,, they work and the best I have used...
