For as much as I watered my I am very discouraged. It put me in a very down mood last night. The Amish up the road have good looking produce. I guess being stuck doing field work and not really getting started on the garden till June cost me dearly this year. Probably just as well that I did not jump on the Cub with cultivators near me this spring. Maybe next year I can put it altogether in terms of getting field and garden done when I need to. The soybeans did look better today after the scorcher we had yesterday so my mood has improved.

it's 6:40 pm and still says 101, and you know we have no end in sight. All I can do is just keep shaking my head.

That looks like my garden. We just didn't get the rain. The plants came up good then stopped growing. My plants usually get by on the moisture in the ground. Like I said lack of winter rain. The late rains don't amount to much, just bring up the weeds. Stan

For the last3 years we had to do as Gary has done. Have watered some this year, but mostly have had timely rains. Usually not much at a time. Day before yesterday had .6, today we had .5 inches. The streams are still low.

This afternoon I came through a nearby city and ran into a strong rainstorm which blew a large tree across the street, blocking traffic. A short distance away there was no rain.

You are not alone, deer did in the corn, my fault, ok, not really a big deal, but the darned woodchucks, well I spotted the brazen one, other 3 I dosed their holes with gasoline and they are confirmed to be done. I've never had so much trouble with them as this year, but that is ok, 3 down, 1 big ole fat one to go, I scared him off 2x today, he came back was rustling in the weeds, no hole nearby, though I could not get a sight on him, emptied a cylinder of .22 short in his direction and he still came back, all the damned vermin have finally officially p^ssed me off ! LOL ! Well I had best let it go,the uh frustration part, before I go and forget what is beyond where I need to shoot, miss or what have you. You can't have no plants around here unless they're protected, s.o.b. got under a mashed part of the old cyclone fence I used and did not see, nailed all the buds on my cucumbers, well at least he left the plant, only topped off an eggplant. Fixed that, good news is no more mice in the house, get rid of one thing, 3 other show up sheesh, really tick me off, I'll fire up the D7 and clear cut everything around me LOL !!!!

I know the feeling, 2010 was all work and more work, garden went to the wayside, just makes you want to make sure it gets done next year, for what you get out of it, really a priority, no substitute, did not get as much planted and late too this year, but something is better than nothing, got all winter to prepare again, gets me down too, always work first as usual !!! LOL !

Makes me think about the tv shows like "Victory Garden" or P. Allen Smith. Everything's always perfect. They must keep the hoses going round the clock in years like this.

SWMBO is pi$$ed. She noticed last night that the leaves were missing on the cantalope plants, and this evening the muskmelon plants are missing their leaves. Momma ain't happy---

I feel for you guys, btdt. ours has done good so far this year. biggest problem I have had is rabbits and deer. biggest surprise has been no raccoons in the corn. I pulled 28 ears this morning, have gotten some earlier but the most is yet to come. it looks really good but not mature yet. hope you get some rain soon but probably to late for your garden.

I assume you live out in the wilderness somewhere where there is no well or water? How can that soil be that dry if you have water and a hose?

I'm almost there too. Corn, potatoes, pickles, broccolli and a row of baby limas are the only thing I can say are doing well. Water every couple of days. Tomatoes are small and the bean yield has been terrible. Too hot for too long. I'll stick it out, but a very disappointing year. Not even the zuchini are doing anything!
