Okay, some time back I sought methods, opinions, experiences and results for ways to keep birds (sparrows or spatsies) out of my enclosed pole barn shop and there were several posted and I enjoyed and appreciated them alllllllll. (Plastic owls n snakes,,,,,,Stuff placed on the boards,,,,,,Netting,,,,,,,,Hanging CD's,,,,,,,,,Electronic repellant,,,,,,,,,Chemical repellant, Spikey things on boards,,,,,, and a few more methods I cant recall lol)

After much deliberation and studying the barn and observing the birds behavior and where n how they got in and out, I arrived at the conclusion of a good, easy and very affordable option.

GREAT STUFF EXPANDING FOAM SEALANT

I found all the holes they were using as access and one by one and with more observations I pretty well got them alllllllll sealed up woooooooooooooo hooooooooooo. The last few days Ive seen NO birds inside whatsoever yayyyyyyyy and no chemicals etc

However, there remains a small colony of small bats but Im just happy now all the nasty birds arent inside and will work on the bats next.

Thanks gang

Considering the poor bats problems lately, maybe learn to live with the little bug eaters? Admittadly they are hard to house train- every room is a potential BAThROOM. Couldn"t resist straight line oPUNing. RN

Northern tool sells a bat house for about 25 bucks. You'll be sorry if you get rid of the bats.....

i agree with the others bats are good to have. Pobably could find a nest box plan on the net somewhere. My grandad alwys went out of his way to keep an owl in his.he would beat us boys if we messed with it too much.

That great stuff is, well, great stuff for stuffing bird holes. My farm has no places left for sparrows or starlings to nest because of the stuff. Jim

Kids used to built bat houses as school, 4H, FFA projects. Shop teachers and extension offices should have plans for a house made out of scrap, or search the net but keep'em around!! Same with dirt martins or swallows, if you ever get some on the outside of your buildings. They eat a TON of bugs!

Bats are really a better insect control than birds - especially for mosquitoes.

They"re fun to watch when on the wing - amazing flyers.

21 years ago I was hired to rid a house of bats. They had just moved in, and their infant daughter was waking up to bats in her crib-YUCK! Stripped the finished third floor and you could see their path on the chimney-they would get in, crawl into the 2nd floor ceiling, then drop into the babys room thru the ceiling light fixture! Long story short, the Humane Society would come and remove them as we found them. Said they usually live in colonies of 16 or so, and they can get in thru a hole the size of a dime!

The birds - I agree with you, but nobody around here messes with "my" bats. We enjoy watching them in the evenings.

It sounds like you've set your mind to get rid of them, but you can make a simple bat shelter out of an old piece of carpet folded over a rod and hung in a warm spot (which would be just about anywhere right now). They catch a lot of bugs. Some folks are scared of them and would rather have the bugs.
