I accidentally and very briefly touched the #2 terminal to the alternator case today with a test light. What is the likelihood of it ruining my alternator?

It ought to be dark now, or soon, depending on where you live. Turn on your lights, and heater blower, and see if your ammeter reads discharge! That should answer your question. LUCK

You won't hurt the alternator doing that. What might happen is you burn off a connection at it's weakest point because that number two wire is hooked right to the battery and that might be right at the output terminal of alternator if a conversion job or back at the starter solenoid if factory. It is the sense lead so alternator get a good feel for the actual voltage of the battery to base it's regulation on. Like was said, fire it up and see if it charges.
