The local CBS news station has been airing a story about thefts of flags at a historic cemetary, which has veterans buried from the Revolutionary War to present. All the vet's graves have an American flag placed by it. Someone started steeling the flags. Police were called in, and new flags were put in place. A day later more than a dozen were stolen again! The local veterans associations were very vocal, and the story got daily coverage. A $500 reward was offered for the arest of the thieves. The police, being flustrated, with no leads, installed electronic survalence equipment in surounding trees, focused on the flags. It didn't take long to reveal the thief. The colpret turned out to be a Woodchuck, "the 4 legged kind". After discovering him the police searched his home with a plumbers camera and found a stash of stolen goods. To my knoledge no charges have been documented, not even a woodchuck bomb. The cemetary director said they were going to extend the heidth of the 1/2" PVC tubes that hold the flags so the woodchuck couldn't reach the flags.
"You just can't trust anyone in this world anymore".

How many flags could a woodchuck steal if a woodchuck could steal flags?

That is a funny story, I can just imagine the look of ignorance when the cops reviewed the video.

They need to use the $500 reward money to relocate said perpetrator.

I heard one a few years back where the Michigan DNR was threatening a property owner for an Illegal dam located on his property. It got to the point the DNR was threatening to arrest the landowner and seize the property because of illegal retention and diversion of surface waters. The problem was the landowner wasn't doing it and his reply had words to the extent that if you don't like the beaver dam serve your paper work on the dam beavers 'cause they won't listen to me.

I saw that one too Loren, down in near the city of Hudson, apparently they leave the staff, but take the flag, and those small ones are that stiff cotton or thin canvas, can't imagine that is very appetizing. The friendly one I had years back under the porch grabbed a broom once, and tried to take it under the porch, I had a little tug o war with him, get it back, like what in heck was he gonna do with that broom, spring cleaning, he sure was entertaining, never seen one like him since, in 8 years he never really caused any trouble. In a sense, its good to have a dog around, woodchucks sure stayed away from the house in those days.
