OT - still need rain

About the only thing left in our lawn that is green is the weeds. Still a little green tinge under the shade trees - anything in full sun is baked and brown and has been for weeks. Still need rain here in the upper midwest. Mowed about a week and a half ago just to trim down any weeds and the shady areas (figured we really could not overstress it... it's already dead).

Renter's corn still looks pretty good, but the tiny leaves at the bottom of the stalks are totally brown. It has been tasseling, but I am sure there will be a negative impact from the heat and lack of moisture. Hoping for all the farmers that we get a gentle, soaking rain for 2-3 days and SOON.

In southwest Wi. if we don"t get rain in a week the corn crop will be history. Third crop hay is real light but has had no rain. Looks like it could be worse than 1988 if it keeps up. I pray it gets better real soon.

Had what looked like a very nice crop of oats, until I started looking closely. Hulls are mostly empty - didn't fill. Hay crop has veen extremely disappointing. Corn, soys, potatoes on un-irrigated land looks terrible.

South Central NY less than a tenth of measurable rain in the past 4 weeks. Most corn still OK I don't really know how. 3rd cut hay is coming back real slow. Should be cut next week but not going to be enough there. Unless it rains decent here in the next 7 days stuff will begin to hurt real bad.

Dark clouds, lots of thunder, got our hopes up - but no rain. We keep watching the storms coming east from CO - but they dissapaite or split and miss us completely. Corn is brown and withering.

I feel bad for all you guys with crops. We have been renting ours out for maybe 6 years... it does take a load of worry off your shoulders to just collect a rent check in the spring.

I sincerely wish that I could share with you folks! Dry spell finally broke here Monday and we have had almost six inches since. Not much run off either. High of only around 80 today. But it'll warm back up and the moisture won't last long.
