Listerine

My poor little dog has always had problems with her ears. Digging, scratching, etc.
I've had her to the vet several times and bought all their ointments, etc. Bought the off shelf cleansers, and ear mite stuff for her.
I ran out of the stuff in the bottle a while back and she was really suffering. So I took a squeeze bottle and put some Listerine in it and flooded her ear with it.
Did that a few times over the course of a week and she seems a lot more comfortable and NO scratching.
Vet visit = $75 + ointment
Listerine = 20¢ + happy dog

Listerine has many medicinal uses.I w onder if it has any uses on old iron?

I thought someone was giving me a line a few years back when they told me to use Listerine as a mosquito repellant. Well, out of bug spray and several miles from town on a fishing trip, I figured what do I have to lose? Haven't bought any bug spray since. Really!!!!!

vics vapor rub will kill em too.

so will clove oil.

most mint / menthol and that family of plants naturally repel or kill pests..a nd usually have some level of homeopathic beneficial effect.

for instance. some are anti bacterial or antiviral and anti fungal.

the listerine I believe has menthol or eucalyptus in it.. maybee thymol too..

Went to the Vet with our dog with about the same problem a few years back.

This was a farm dog that spent his 14 years running outside. The vet gave me heck for burrs in his fur. Bothered the Vet more than the dog.

Long story short I vowed that I would not go back to that vet.

The Vets aide, a friend of mine, told me to use Vinegar next time. I did, it worked.

Sorry but every dog I have had, has been and will be an outside dog. And no dog will be pampered as a inside dog at my house. Vets that think they need to be are off my list.

One time at Grandma's when I was a kid I used her listerine. Wow, nearly put my eyes out. She told me later is was cut with half apple vinegar and she used that to soak her dentures.

Dr Tichners Peppermint mouthwash concentrate...I use it for all itches, even poison ivey. Good stuff and from an old old company.

It might have allergies too, we had a golden retriever and It had ear infections all the time and lots of scratching biting itself raw. We finally gave it to a rescue group and they found it a good home to someone who knew more than what we did.

I use a 50/50 mix of listerine and baby oil on my horses" manes and and tails when they start rubbing in the summer. Makes the hair a little oily and then it gets dirty, but better than them rubbing it completely off and making sores.

One of my dogs had a terrible ear infection. Took a lot of medication to get it cleared up. Vet said it can be caused by a food allergy. Since I had changed food about a year or so ago, I put her back on Diamond dog food. No more problems.

very interesting topic.. I have a small dog that has a lot of itching problems and sometimes get bad ear infections I think I'll ty the Listerine and baby oil for his ears the next time rather the expensive vet bill.
