Well it has been dry and hot here in Central NY for the last three weeks. Crops on the farm are stressed to say the least. My garden is doing well, but it gets watered every day. The flower gardens are peaking with summer colors, especially the lilys.

pretty as a picture - your orchids look great. Even the tiger lilies here have gone bad due to no water. thanks for sharing!

Taking care of these gardens requires less than an hr./day. Processing the vegies takes the time. Our garden feeds us year round, and along with wild game. Our grocery bills consist mainly of staples, (flour, butter cooking oil etc.), detergents, and paper products. The flower gardens are all perenials. They just do their thing, and in the fall when done blooming the wifey cuts all the stalks back, and throws them on the compost pile to make new soil. That takes her a day.

Must be watering the grass as well.

I haven't seen a green lawn around this area in eastern Iowa for 2 weeks. They are all brown and I mean brown.

Some of the corn is turning brown as well.

You have a beautiful place, and a beautiful view! I was a little surprised to read how little time you spend on the yard and flowers. Believe I detected some solar panels on the house also.

Adirondack case guy,

Incredibly beautiful yard and home! Love what looks to be an octagonal sunroom.

What is the low, purple groundcover in photo number 10? And is it tolerant of full sun? Looks like it could be a good plant for around the culverts in our driveway.

The blue ground cover is Thyme. It is covering our blue stone walks and landings. It growes anywhere, and everywhere. We will be planting it in the cracks between stone in the back patio that I am building also. It takes 5 plus years to fill in solid kike out front. It smells god when you step on it and we use it in cooking aswell.

Crops are not doing real well here either. Early April planted corn looks good, but later corn and the beans are doing poorley. We got in 145A of oats during the hot week in March. They are turning, but not sure weather they are filling out, or we will have a lot of false oats. We were done with first cut Alfalfa by the second week in June. Since then it grew to about 10" high, matured out, and turned yellow. We cut 70A of it yesterday. Hope we can find it when we rake. Hopeing we will get some rain and 3rd and 4th cut will do better.

Very Very Nice. It looks like your trying to not tape into the grid as much as others. I see solar panels and wind mills. what can you tell me about that wind mill? Was it made by a company in Michigan? Do you know what your pay back time is?

Thanks in advance.
