Howells: rain

Got the Bahiagrass hay baled and in the hay barn before the rain shower on Sunday.

Started raining again last night at 7:45pm.

Just checked the rain gauge and got 3/4 inch of rain.

We"ll take all we can get in July.

Weather forecasts (forecasters) are the makings for a series of Farside Comics.....

I missed the perfect hay weather window on 5 or so acres of stuff that I am baling from a neighbor that couldn't make up his mind. Now, the window opens, I mow and it starts raining midway. Finish, Ted after top dries off, and rain pops out of nowhere. Never much, just a milimeter or two to wet things down another day. Ted this evening and hope it holds for tomorrow evening rake and roll...

RAKE 'n ROLL I like it!!

(quoted from post at 07:49:27 07/10/12) Doesn't sound like enough moisture to hurt anything.

Hope you get it raked and rolled without any more rain.

only thing it's really hurting is my people skills  Just hope I can get it in and have a few days cool off break before I see the neighbor. he's a good enough guy, just aggravates the H outta me sometimes....

James,

What strain of Bahia grass are you talking about? I just bought some Pensacola Bahia and planted it with some Pearl Millet. I had about 3-4 different grasses come up and I'm trying to figure out which is Bahia.

Bahia to me shot a seed stem up well above the leaves which were 3/8" wide and didn't grow that tall, and on the end of the very thin seed pod stem was a V shaped array of seeds.......similar to Common Bermuda but only 2.

I have what looks like Foxtail Millet with fuzzy seed pods straight off the end of the stem and the end of the pod drapes over slightly, and another thing that looks like a Douglas Firs branches (straight out) and there may be half a dozen up 2" of pod stems.

I have compared seeds from what I thought was the Foxtail with some seeds from the Bahia seed bag I bought and the seeds look just alike.

Glad you got some rain. We got some too and have TS in the forecast for most of the week. Hay patch is really coming on nicely.

Appreciate your reply.
