I used a CA for about 12 years, gardening and hauling firewood. They don't seem to be too complicated, but then, I never had to do much to mine until the throwout bearing locked up and wore the fingers off the pressure plate before I knew it. They are very easy on gas. I see you are experienced enough not to tackle too much without a manual. That's where many people mess up. Every time I buy a vehicle or tractor, I buy SOME kind of manual. "Course, factory is always best, but generally, SOMETHING is better than NOTHING.

Second the motion on getting some kind of manual before tackling it. My "eureka moment" on that policy was when I unscrewed an innocent looking bolt on an Oliver, and when I got it loose, the bolt, spring and check ball flew across the shop and bounced all over the place. Took me half an hour to find all three pieces. Never again- I want to know whether that bolt is something more before I unscrew it!
