Coil retainer screws on a Fairbanks Morse FM magneto?

Just got brothers McCormic Deering 22-36 running and did a couple of parades over the holidays.

I have never worked on a FM mag before, replaced the shorted coil to get the mag working.
Should there be some sort of sealer on those two coil retaining set screws that go through the top of the magneto case ?
It looks like moisture could leak in there without some sort of sealer over those screws.
TIA.

I know the FM J style mags had those bolts sealed with lead when new. I am not sure what model of FM mag your MD tractor uses, but it couldn't hurt anything to seal them up and give you peace of mind.

I can't think of a fairbanks Mag that would be stock on that tractor. If the threads are good on the case I would not add any sealer, you can change out the screws with long set screws if the originals are battered. If the screws don't want to set tight your going to have to retap or replace the case.

Neither magneto nor engine(A very early odd fire Wisconsin V4) is stock to the tractor, just a fun parade toy assembled from a mix of scrap parts.
Engin crank starts using the stock 22-36 crank and hides behind stock looking side panels.
The coil lock down set screws are in good condition, I just worry that water could wick down through those two screws threads in the top of the mag case to run inside the mag.

This is a FM J style mag. There were no plugs in the holes, the screw slots show a little screwdriver abuse, so they have been out before. I wonder if a dab of #2 permitex in each hole would do the job ?

I put a little Anti-Seeze on them,so they won't
corrode into the case. I've never thought about
moisture, as my equipment never sits out in the
rain. Maybe a dab of silicone sealer over the
screw top..that could easily be peeled off ?
