I have noticed recently that I can buy highway diesel for about the same price (3.72) as the off-road that I usually buy. Is there any advantage to using off-road in my tractor? (newer JD, Yanmar engine)

They recently changed the law in Mn. so you have to pay the tax at the pump, then put in for a refund. You get the died fuel and the recieept shoulkd say off road, but otherwise everything is the same.

I sure don,t want to cause a argument but my fuel supplier ( and we buy over 4 thousand gal a month) says the ONLY diffrence in what we get is dye added where we do not pay the tax on the off road. Have two 10,000 gal tanks here use one for off road and the other for the road trucks.

The only differance in the fuel now is the red dye because all diesel engines are under Tier 4 standards now. Here is the time line for off road diesel........

Before June 2007 there was no rule but the standard was about 3000 ppm of sulfur.

500 ppm (Low Sulfur Diesel) effective June 2007 for nonroad, locomotive and marine diesel fuels.

15 ppm (ultra-low sulfur diesel) effective June 2010 for nonroad fuel

15 ppm (ultra-low sulfur diesel) effective June 2012 for locomotive and marine fuels

Some of us were still getting 500 ppm fuel between 2010 and 2012 because the supplier was buying marine fuel and selling it as nonroad fuel.
