Just watching the son burn some meat on the grill. It is already 98 degrees so we are eating inside. It is too hot to be outside today.

I am just cruising the net and had a nice phone talk with a fellow on his baler knotter. So I am exercising my freedom!!! TO be lazy today!!! LMAO

I don't think you have to do a bunch of stuff to celebrate the day. The younger kids are going to play in the water this afternoon. After they run the puppies down a little that is. Got five puppies and ten kids under 10 so the puppies will be well tired this evening. Just hearing those kids play makes it all worth it!!!!

You should elaborate on your comment in a previous about Andy Griffith. "His political leanings where at contrast with the life style he portrayed in most of his shows" I"m certain that would be entertaining.

Grand kids and puppies. Doesn't get much better!
Except maybe Old dogs and children and watermelon wine.

I'm at work... The big festivities are about 400 yards away, gonna walk out across the street and watch the fireworks in a few minutes. Enjoy...

Just had a house wren trying to build a nest in SWMBO's clothespin bag, ao I made a wren box and screwed it onto the cornerpost of the clothesline. SWMBO had just cleaned out the bag for the second time in two days, and this time closed it up tight with clothespins. Poor bird had a fit until he found the nest box a couple of feet away. Now, he's busy as hail filling it with sticks and seems happy. I just threw two racks of ribs on the grill and have some of the first sweet corn we've picked ready for the microwave. AH, summer holidays---

You gotta do that corn on the grill if you haven't already threw the husks away...... You folks in the far east just don't know how ta eat right......

I would be glad to. Send me an email and we can talk all day about it. I am not getting my post spoofed just because of some politicial comments.

Lets just say his Mayberry would not be the type of place the current leaders would be happy in. They would not have control of everything and everybody.

If it cools down a little as the sun sets, my wife and I will drive a few miles to Red Hill, the home of Patrick Henry. The annual celebration there is great. He's buried there, the old building have been kept up. Very nice place to visit and see some history. It's about 13 miles to the east of me.

Poplar Forest is about 35 miles to my north. It belonged to Thomas Jefferson. Thought about going there but still about 20,000 without power in that area.

I'm blessed to have grown up in this area with it's history. Staunton Hill artillery training was done about a mile from Red Hill.Had 14 members with the same last name as mine that were there in the war between the states for training. Then there's Appomattox. So we learned about war early here and lessons were passed down over the years. It's nice to study all this but even better to see and touch some of it.

Freedom is so great but comes with a high cost at times.

Dave- Don't want to pee on your parade, but try this for me. You know those bags you get at the stores when you shop- the thin, plastic things? You need one or two for this. DO NOT HUSK your ear the whole way- leave several layers of leaf on it. Leave the silk intact. Then, put it in one of those plastic bags and loosely tie the top or twist it a couple of times and place it in your microwave with the bottom of the bag up. Rule of thumb is 2 minutes + 1 1/2 minutes per ear for the average microwave. So, if you put 4 ears in the bag, microwave them for 8 minutes. When you pull the bag out, be very careful- it will be hot as all stink. Let the ears cool for a few minutes, and husk them- the silk will come off with what is left of the husk. Bit of butter, some salt or Old Bay, and you'll have trouble doing it on the grill and drying it out. You can do multiple ears per bag- we usually do about 6-8 at a time. And you may have to experiment with your microwave as some are faster than others. But you'll like the corn this way.

Spent most of the morning working on a pool pump. Finally got it going about 1:00 so the grandkids could swim. Helped my son clean up clippings from my shrubs and called it a day. Had lots of company and a big pot luck supper with the first sweet corn of the year. Having a couple of cold ones and wondering what tomorrow will bring? Haqppy 4th everyone.

I'll try it as soon as I can find some corn (few more weeks for this area...

I put up the weather station I bought in December. Once I got it set up and started, I sat watching the unit talk to the various components. I then said it was 101.2 degrees. I wondered why the heck I set it up!
