Emerging Emissions Regulations

Does anyone have current information regarding the phase-in of emissions for farm tractors, especially DEF?

I'm looking to buy another new tractor in the 60 HP range and want to do so before the next generation of regulations applies.

You are too late now. Here is the link to the EPA site where they tell you how wonderful they are.

July the first teir 4 BUT dealers can sell existing stock. We have both on the lot and the teir 4 is roughly 5 grand more on a 100 hp tractor. Raise the hood and it is FULL> You need to to be shoping now.

Thanks guys.

I have 2009 80 HP NH with 45 hours that I plan to sell (obviously not using it) but will likely hold on to it a while now as it will likely sell better after the price shock settles in.

I'm also currently looking at a 2012 60 HP MF open station on the dealers lot, which I think I've just been convinced to buy.

Don't be affraid of the def accept for the cost. It has been out in trucks for a couple a years now and all the trucks with it get MUCH better milage and pull better. They are now better in both aspects that the pre 04 models. And in trucks def is a very minor expense, about $25.00/wk for a truck putting on 125,000 miles a year which is about 2-2500 hours average. The increase in milage and lower maintainance costs more than pay for the initial expense, at least in trucks. As a mater of fact, my company pushes a new volvo truck that saves so much fuel it pays more back to the driver after truck payments that a truck with no payments.

As far as I know the emission regs don't apply to stuff under 80 hp but I could be wrong.

I can tell you this... if I have a choice between an engine with DEF and an engine with EGR... I'll take the one with DEF every single time without a second thought. EGR is a nightmare that doesn't work and never will work on a diesel engine (reliably).
With DEF you essentially have a Tier II engine with aftertreatment and Tier II engines were about as good as diesel's got in most respects.

The wonderful EPA. They answer to no one. And they make no sense. Just got back from Europe, while there we rented a Ford Focus diesel. My son has a focus gas in Germany and the Focus diesel would run circles around the gas. The diesel also got much better mileage. Guess what, can't buy them here. We need to pack up the EPA and send them to Europe or to the moon or to the sun.
