hard starting allis d-17

Need help bleeding my d-17 opened the top of filter, has fuel there, opened line to pump, and 4 lines to injectors have fuel all there but still wont start, tries to...any suggestions? Thanks

If you have fuel at the injection nozzles, tighten the lines and make sure your cranking speed is where it needs to be. Put a charger on for a while if you've been cranking and brought the battery down a bit.

Has anything been done to the engine lately??
Sounds like timing may be a little late or compression is way down!

I guess I was assuming that you had just replaced the fuel filters because you said you were bleeding them. If not, has anything been done before the no start issue?

A new pump was put on a few yrs ago due to the old one leaking, and it has never started real good since. Always needs some ether to start.

If the hard start problems started with a new pump being installed I'd look a the timing first and maybe the pump itself.

A D17 diesel has 6 injectors, have you blead all 6? Check pump timing, as long as all 3 marks line up you should be good. Do you have 2 batteries in it or just 1-12 volt. They dont turn over so good with 1-12 volt, you need 2

Do you need to bleed all 6? I would think bleeding as few as 2 would get you enough firing cylinders to make the engine run rough, but run. Then let it work the air out itself.

Check the timing through the window in the pump. The drive gear and shaft stay in the engine when you remove the pump. The way the timing cover is made it's not possible for the teeth to jump. If it's in time, and cranks like it should, compression is good, sounds like the delivery valve is worn.
