Just came in from picking rocks-on crutches!!!!
That knee has been acting up a little but I've just been practicing mind-over-matter and kept going. About fifteen minutes ago I just started lifting that leg to swing it up on the tractor step and POP!! The pain is in the crease of the knee and goes down to the foot. Can't put an ounce of weight on that leg with the leg straight without shooting pain. I'm sure a bunch of you guys have had this happen, so what gives? Pain is in the back crease of the knee. GRMMMPH!!!! Luckily the tractor is the SC Case with a hand clutch so I could get home. Called Marilyn on the cell and she brought out the crutches. GRMMMPH! Jim

Take a 3 pound hammer and mash you thumb on the opposite side real good... That oughta take your mind off the knee....

Now, want a real and helpful answer? Go to the dock before you cause irreversable damage........ If it's on the back side, it may not be real serious.. Get it checked out.....

Possibly torn cartilage. Mine did that 15 years ago in a similar situation. The cartilage tore and folded in half so it was double thickness on the front side. It was real painful if I tried to straighten my knee. orthoscopic surgery fixed it right quick.

You may have torn your ACL. I would stay off the leg and get to the Dr. for a look-see.

I get weird pains in my left knee that I know is from over-working the leg in the bended position when I am working the clutch on my 2N Ford. The pain is in the front and I'm sure it's some form of arthritis that is showing up when I strain the knee cap.

I sold knee and hip implants for a number of years and frankly I know more about knee problems that I want to. It's the largest joint in the body and the tension between the ligaments fore and aft is what keeps it together. If one of them weakens or tears the alignment goes away and bad things happen and it doesn't get better on it's own.

Good luck with this and please report back on your progress. We are all getting older.

Laying around is just not something I do. Makes me crazy.

BUT

Pushing through he pain and "toughing it out" has bit me in the Azz every time. Makes the pain worse and recovery time longer.

Get to the doc, slow down, and heal up.

Good luck

Yeah, I know. I take better care of my machinery than I do myself. If the tractor is hurting a little I massage it back to health right away.

Now I'm finding out the shoulder I had surgery on a couple of years ago does not like a crutch at all. There's a stabbing pain over the end of it when I push down on the crutch with that arm. The shoulder is doing great otherwise other than a little crunching when I rotate it. Just took a left over pain pill from the shoulder days and all it does is make me mellow and sleepy.

Now, to make this tractor related. I just got the SC out of the shop after a brake/brake seal job. The brakes work as good as they can be expected to work. Put a kit in the carb and now she just purrs. The reason for working on the carb hasn't gone away though. It has been slowly flooding overnight for quite some time and that was NOT cured. I carefully checked the new float valve, spent plenty of time setting the float, made sure the seat is screwed in snug, the float itself does not leak, but this morning she was flooded again. Not bad enough to run rivers of gas, but enough to make it smoke and chug until it cleared it's throat. Maybe I can get back out there and sit on the creeper chair and take it back apart. Gotta stay busy somehow! Oh, Dave, about the hammer. I've done that many times only on the left thumb. I'm right handed, you know. This is the left knee so I should hammer the unblemished right thumb. Not gonna happen. Left hand isn't cooridinated enough to swing a hammer LOL! Jim

I don't have it as bad as you do but do have to wear a brace from time to time and I have had surgery on that knee. I am ok as long as I stay off much concrete as in stay off it for longer 2 or so hours or I am in trouble. Have a friend who has been getting shots in his knee for a few years but they are now saying time to cut it open and have a look see. Hope they do not have to do the look see on your knee it is not fun

Just did a little reading about the ACL and injuries to it. This knee has felt a little unstable and loose for awhile but I didn't pay much attention to it, and it's been aching pretty good for the past two weeks. In the last month I've picked up maybe 10 tons, without exageration, of rocks out of the fields. I can show ou a pic if you want. I use a pitchfork and have been bragging about my ability to pitch a rock with fair accuracy into the wagon up to 30 feet. So, using a fork with my left hand on the lower end of the fork, and pitching the rock to the left would put a little twist on the left knee, which is the one that's affected. Add that to up-and-down off the tractor a million times and 61 years old, and.....The doc will tell me what's up tomorrow. I have the feeling this is more than a little tear but who knows. Jim

Ouch! Would definitely go see a doc and get it checked out. Agree with other who have said you may do further damage if you don't. It is not always best to tough it out.
