So,,,I decided the RV Rooftop AC was low on Freon so after 20 calls to various AC service contractors.... If a secretary answered and when I said RV rooftop AC the line went blank I knew that was goin nowhere..........Some places started screamin n cryin when I mentioned RV AC OH NOOOOOOOOO WE DONT DO THAT ...........Some places had to ask and would get right back YEAH RIGHT........FINALLY I saw a place called Bobs AC and I called n who answered but Ol Bob himself yayyyyyyyy he says sure no problem I can meet you in the St George Utah Wal Mart parking lot (right on my route) and can check it and add freon if needed AND HE WAS RIGHT THERE AND FIXED IT YAYYYYYYYYY while 20 other places hung up or cussed me or said no way no one does that etc etc its just R22 Freon, gauges and a port and check n stick some it its NOT rocket science all you others grrrrrrrrrrrrrr PS he found no signs of leaks and so far shes stayin cool, have my fingers crossed!!!

Anywho, in 110 degree heat in the sun the 13,500 BTU works its tail off butttttttt the biggest help was to hang a sheet up sealing off the entite front of the RV and now with freon and the roof vents closed and of course all the blinds down she can actually get it under control

UTAH Okay think about it Utah has 5 or more Natl Parks, this is our third time to Zion and Bryce Canyon and next its Capitol Reef,,,,,Arches,,,,,,,,,,Canyonlands plus they have Valley of the Gods and Monument Valley (part in AZ) THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SCENERY EVER IS IN UTAH

By the time we get to Grand Mesa and Rocky Mtn Natl Park in Colo (we love it also) our eyes will be over taxed lol

A now "cool" John T on the road in the RV PS the pics at our Florida winter home RV Park, NOT Utah, theres a lake right at the other side of the road

PS I accidentally posted on JD Forum first time, sorry for the repeat

Glad to hear you got your cool back. Those are all beautiful parks in Utah, but Bryce is stupendious. Only our Creator could create something so unbelievably beautiful as Bryce, even though it is a " he!!uva place to loose a cow."

Thanks for keeping us informed and have a safe trip. Joe

Adding freon to a small system is not difficult buttttttttttt- some where the old freon went away sooooo you have a leak in the system. When, not if, you have the same problem consider a new unit. You might not find someone next time. Just remember, freon does not wear out, it just goes away. The newer ones are much more efficient and you could upsize slightly to give you the results you want. Don't go too big or the A/C will not remove the moisture well due to shorter running time. Henry

John........nebber saw spanish moss in Utah (grin) .......while freon does NOT wear out, it does leak out. Unless frequently run, the seals dry out and thus the freon leaks out and kills the OZONE that protects us from ultraviolet rays according to Al Gore ........suntanned Dell

The only roof top RV ac I ever worked on was originally a sealed unit, but some one along the line had the moxy to install a fitting to recharge it. Got it working for the guy but didn't really know what I was doing. He had the refrigerant, all I have is for vehicle ac systems.

Once I took an old fridge to the local salvage yard and whne they saw it still had freon they all panicked n ran n screamed bloddy murder n called the SWAT tems and the guys in the white HazMat Suits (ok maybe Im exaggerating a bit lol) soooooooooo I took it back home n took my pliers n broke the tube n all the freon ran out AND DONT YA KNOW THE NEXT DAY IT GOT REAL HOT AT MY FARM

AlGore was right

Im doing exactly that, next time it fails I can buy a new one for $550 and at the cost of R22 Im money ahead versus havin to recharge the old one

Thats Lake Bonnett Village, Avon Park FL on SR 17 between Avon Park and Sebring. I go often to Craigs RV Park North of Arcadia for the Bluegrass Festivals or Jams.

When I was young and not too bright (now I am old, and still not too bright) I cut a line on a old ammonia refrigerator, and got a nose full of ammonia. I thought I was a going to die. Stan

Yes, Utah is beautiful, want to get back there some day, every now and then you will find some one who will still practice his trade. Be safe and have fun!!

Unless there is a freon leak, they never need recharged. These roof airs only hold a little less than one pound of refrigerant so it doesn't take long to start getting warm. The reason no one wants to repair them is it cost less to replace than to mess with them. The new ones take R-134a, same as is in your car,,,for now.

There is new stuff coming down the pike.
