I know this is an off the wall topic but I need some help. I have an addition on my tractor shed that has living quarters with an upstairs on it. I put a patio door in and I need ideas on what to build a deck out of. I have 8 inch oil pipe that I can use for poles an 12 inch mobile home frame for the subframe. Or I could just build all out of treated lumber but I have the metal. What should I use for the floor? Just 5/4ths decking boards? I have thought about smooth grain bin flooring. Any other ideas out there? thanks

Where is UltraDog when you need him!
If he doesn't come along soon I'll try to find you his pictures.
His looked to me like he used steel grating for the floor.

Go to Archives, type in Ultradog MN look for 26/5/12 Number 198. and you will see a piece of lateral thinking. It may help you.

if you go with PT lumber (not a bad choice) frame it 12 on center. it is next to nothing on materials extra and makes a world of difference.

one thing i would be concerned about using metal is that it may be too slick to use as flooring. I would use wood myself.but some treated lumber doesnt play well with metal.metal also may not let water drain away well enough, unless its some type of expanded metal.

You said renter/rental and then said I want to use what I got kicking around in the same sentence. I am not in the midwest but we don't do anything at our rental house unless a permit is pulled and it is up to code. If you were to get sued then you have some minimal protection that it was done right. Just keep in mind renters have their best interest in mind and do not care about yours. Do it once, do it right with new pressure treated wood all around and sleep better at night.
