Beef cattle prices.........freezer beef

Just curious what those of you who raise and sell freezer beef are charging, based on hoof or hanging weight. We are updating our prices, and I was wondering what others are doing. We are in southwestern ohio, producing born and raised grain fed black angus beef. All natural, no horomones, min. medication.

As always, thanks!!!

Around here in southeast ohio its anywhere from $1.80-$2/pound hanging weight;with $2 not being uncommon anymore.

2.25 hanging with standing offer to pickup meat and deliver and put it in freezer, some take you up on it, some want to do it themselves

The ones I have booked for Oct. I have been tell'n folks $1.60 live weight. First few folks told me they'd have to think about it. While they were think'n I now have $200 deposits for all of them. A few were not happy when I asked if I could put them down for the ones I have scheduled for March.

Arond here, we usually take the average sale price on the hoof and double it to hanging weight. The customer pays the butchering charges, and the carcass is paid for before the butcher calls them to pick up the meat.

I always sold on hanging weight double what ever live cattle are going for plus buyer pays processing. Never had any trouble getting rid of them just trouble keeping up with demand.

We do a market price study for our area each year to keep in line with retail prices. This year's price was $1.35/lb live weight (Omaha/Council Bluffs area). Customer pays the butcher. Natural raised: ground ear corn, hay/graze in season, salt block, and water. No hormones, no antibiotic regimen. The fat cattle not sold direct are sold to a kosher butcher, which gets us a more $ than through a conventional buyer.

thanks guys!

I was about right in line with what most of you are thinking.....on hanging weight, we are currently $2.16/# whole, $2.33 half, and $2.49 quarter, customer paying processing charges.

Will adjust upward when local market does!
