id like to see some pics of what you guys have for home built small tillage equipment, i want to build something as my old ford 201 disc just wont run for long without a disc breaking at the hub, it think the metal is brittle , what i need to build is something that will run behind a 45hp jd, and work about 6 or 7 foot at a pass, i need to work 8 to 10 inched of soil but also it need to break up the clods [ soil is a mix of clay sand and river sediment] this is for a rodeo areana so clods and horses frogs dont do well togeather neither does the cowboy/girl lol

I if you're trying to till ground 8-10" deep...no wonder you're breaking blades! If you're looking some magic 'one pass' tool,it doesn't exist. What you need is a moldboard plow or ripper/chisel;a disk;and a harrow,or something similar. In other words, you're gonna need to make multiple passes with some different tools to do the job you are describeing.

Would this be a sandy area?

I think you need to go that deep with a chisel plow or the heavier built Ford/Dearborn type field cultivators, then come back with the disk in a shallower pass to level it off. Perhaps a harrow section behind the disk, or a 3rd pass tosmooth it well.

All in one shot seems like more than the tractor would be capible of, as well as the implements you have?

I would consider a field cultivator to depth for one pass. Sweep spacing at a foot or so. Then a rototill of the top 4 to 5 inches to fluff it. Jim

ii should have worded this different , im not looking for a 1 pass tool, what ive been doing is discing a couple passes until the disc is axle deep, then using a 6 foot landscape rake making a couple of passes, to break up as much as possible, then i use a home made harrow, which is made about 12 feet wide, with 1 inch rebar welded to the bottom of 90 lb railroad track every 3 inches to finish, i lift the disc out when i turn, but the thing is just old, not sure how old as we bought it at a auction many years ago but i figure 50's 60's or so, what i would like to make is a tool that has closer spacing than a disc does to make the primary passes, im also wondering about using rock crusher screen about 1 inch or 1 1/2 inch which i have access to at work welding it into a roller to roll behind the harrow to break up the clods even finer, but i still have some clods around 3 to 4 inches, they will break up if it rains, but it doesn't rain here anymore it seems , just wondering if anybody has built something like that , looking for ideas ect,

If your handy in the shop and dont mind cutting what yhou have and welding then build something like this. Or bite the bullet and buy one. Looks like it does the job. http://reveal4-n-1.com/
Is there a mill you get sawdust from to work in and eliminate the clods somewhat?? Or does that not work in your area?
