too much too quick....rain

All,

I bragged once that I like rain, too bad that I"d see the problems attached with it. SO far, 5 inches plus on thusday, plenty more than 9 inches again, and following that, we got another 3 plus last night.

Poor culverts are missing in action, fields are flooded, roads washed out, neighbors are doing OK, but are leery. Dangit. Perhaps we need a small soaking, versus a mighty downpour.

Enough of my rant, hope all is well with you and yours.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature does not deliver custom orders. So much of the time it seems to be one extreme or the other with often resulting consequences as you mentioned. We have had about three inches of rain the last month, but for the last few days humidity has been low and quite breezy at times so you know where the moisture is going. Best to you, hope you don't suffer too much damage.

We have not had an inch of rain since end of April here in northern Indiana. Tenth here tenth there. Very dry! Dont know how the crops look as good as they do.

last August we got a 10" rain from Huricane Irene. That came after 6 weeks of no rain. Obviously, most of it ran down the streams to Chesapeake Bay. And....for the year, rain fall was measured as normal range. Just as obviously, that is how weather records never tell the real story. Hope you fare well.

Here in Missouri we are close to being 6 inches behind and there is little to no hope for rain in the next week or more. If we do not get some rain soon we may have a new record heat wave last one was in 1953 and that was a hot dry year also and we do not need that

Dennis,

Are you up around the Cannon Falls / Red Wing area? I've been watching that mess on the radar all week. Nothing more than 0.5" at a time down here, though 2007 and 2010 were the worst down here in the SE tip of MN. We had 9" in one storm in 2010 and in 2007 they had 15" a few miles north of here. You spend your whole life looking at gullys and ravines and never think twice about how they got that way... until that happens!
