Broke shear bolt

Allen in Nebraska's post about raking reminded me that today I broke a shear bolt in my MF 224 for the first time in about four years. I was working my way around a tree and not paying attention to what the baler was pulling in until it was too late. It kept pulling in more of the two double windrows that I had pulled it into for about four seconds after I pushed the clutch in until the bolt broke. It pushed out two bales one on top of the other and a third after another three feet. That old MF really takes it a lot better than my JD 336 ever did.

I broke one too, but only because I didnt follow directions. The book says to replace shear bolt every season I was on the 4th with my new holland 67 hayliner.I only run about 2000 bales through it every year hay, wheat and soybean straw.

My Dad had a new holland hayliner 68. Good old baler, but every season it would break about 4 or 5 shear bolts before it was ready to work steady. We always kept a handful handy at the start of the haying season.
