Super A oil pump

I am replacing the gasket and relief valve spring on the oil pump on my Super A. When I removed the spring I found 2 small washers in the cover housing where the spring goes in. Do I keep them in or remove them since I am installing a new spring?

Compare new spring to old and then make a judgement call as to weather they would be needed . I would say not to use them. Make sure you polish that cover perfectly flat, then you want almost zero end play on that pump shaft. In other word, use just enough gaskets so pump turns perfectly free. I would use a shellac on the gasket also. Not rtv silicone.

You will lose 5 PSI for each washer you take out.
BTDT The new spring is not enough to give good oil pressure. There was a reason they were there!
