I"m working on a 641, or 661 Powermaster Ford diesel tractor. When I try to start it and let off the starter push knob, it leeps trying to start, turning the key off will not stop it from trying to start. I have to pull off the battery cable. Does anyone have any ideas on what"s going on? I"ve never had this problem before, nor have I heard of this happening. Any suggestions, or help would be greatly appreciated.

If you tried to crank it and the battery was low or the starter was dragging, the solenoid contacts "weld" themselves together. Sometimes a light tap on the solenoid will make it break contact.Otherwise the solenoid will have to be replaced.

I'll second the sticky solenoid. Put new cables on, too, if there is any evidence of corrosion. Use the correct size cables, too.
