OT: Chevy wheel hub assemblies

Of course my 2006 2500hd just turned over 76000 miles and both wheel hub assemblies are going bad. I've been price shopping(it also needs tires pretty bad so I'm about to be out a lot of money), rockauto.com has their house brand Value Pro for about $92 each. Of course it's made in China. Next is a Raybestos assembly for about $165 each, still made in China. They also have a Moog for about $174 each and it's made in Korea. Finally they have an SKF for about $216 each and its made here in the states. Add about $25 for shipping on each brand(for two assemblies). They all have a 12 month warranty on them.

Napa has the best deal locally with there NAPA brand for $140 and its made in China. They also have the SKF for about $247. I always try to buy the American made one, but wow, $500 in wheel bearings plus another $1000 in tires, just don't know if I can swing it or not. If I don't go with the SKF's, which is the better of the cheap ones? I'm leaning towards rockauto but if the bearings fail again within 12 months, I have to pay return shipping, which would put me at about the break even point. Decisions....any suggestions?

Get rid of the GM and buy a ford or dodge. You won't have to replace the gas gauge sending unit for #1082.00 in the near future either.

Go with the American made. Can't remember for sure but also check with the chevy dealer, some of those hubs were covered with a 100,000 mile waranty under drive train. Maybe still covered.

If you're buying just bearings try a industrial bearing house they might be able to do American for less money, down side is you'll need the part numbers. On some of the industrial stuff I have done the bearing house is about 50% of OEM

Pretty easy to spend someone else's money huh???
You're prolly gonna get rid of that truck before those 90 buck ones are shot..... And, with rockauto, they prolly carry the same guarantee that the 250 buck ones have.....
Don't know about the skf from the states, but the plant where I live makes a part, someone else makes a part, and another makes a part (components) all send those components to china for assembly and SKF gets a bearing assembly back from china to sell to joeblow as a made in germany assembly...
The only important refridgerator you are effecting by buying the 90 or the 250 buck part is your own... that savings will make a big dent in tire prices also......

When you take it apart you will probably find the bearings were made overseas along with 2/3 of the rest of the truck

My 06 GMC bearings went out at 73000 miles also. They are not covered under waranty. I opted for new GMC units at 370.00 each. same junk they put on at the factory.
Someone said the factory that made the bearing assemblies waranty them to GMC, but I don t know who made them. If Iam not mistaken, the 05 GMC was waranty for 100000 miles. So the factory knew they were junk when they put them in the ride!!!

GM's 100k mile warranty didn't start till 2007, 06 still had the 3 year 36k warranty. Buddy had an 07 cobalt that the wheel bearings went at about 48k miles and they were covered under warranty. I've never had any luck with any GM wheel hub assembly from about 1998 on. 98 blazer, 2001 s-10, 2002 blazer, and now this 06 2500. My 1995 ck1500 wt was bullet proof for 160k miles when I sold it, worst mistake I ever made. I do plan on keeping this truck till the wheels fall off, hoping for 300k miles but they may be optimistic.

replaced one on my 01 about 120,000 miles ago with the napa brand. Truck plows snow and is loaded most of the time. Still going strong. Maybe I'm luckey. The other side is still original at 220,000 miles. Just my 2cents.

Moog Hubs,, I just started seeing them offer hub assy.,,, I have used them with no issues,,, I hope Moog has not sold their sole cuzz Moog has always been the best suppression part supplier bar none... I don't care were its made if the Moog name delivers what I have been a custom to..

If you are going to hang on to the truck for a long time invest in Moog. They have long been known for quality. Moog makes the best front end parts I've ever installed. Their name is like Milton for compressed air.

I only install SKF brand hubs at the shop I own. The made in China ones will fail in short order, I 've been burned once, vowed never again. Don't get me wrong though, I love the China hubs people cart in for me to install. I get paid again and again to replace them.

I shop for American (or Canadian) made parts also, but the way it's going, soon there will be no American made parts left.

I have a 2005 3500HD diesel 4x4. When the bearing went bad, I checked at the dealer. Quote was just over $800 for hub with bearings, installed. I went to RockAuto and got a Timken brand for $156.79 plus shipping. I went with Timken because I know the name brand well and trust them. Could not replace just the bearings as the assembly contains Anti-lock brake parts and "precision" tolerances at assembling. It only took me about 1 hour to replace. Neighbor has 3 Fords and every 50-60,000 miles, he is replacing both front hubs. He was always taking it to the Ford dealer. Now I have a job when his fail the next time.

Rock Auto sent me the wrong parts twice.I ordered spring hangers, couldnt start the job until the weather was better.Have to work out doors. The metric bolts that came with the rear hangers were undersize.Had to get the front hangers from a Ford dealer. The shipping will cost plenty if you get a wrong part or have a warranty problem. My sons GMC needed a new bearing under 100K.He changed it himself .didnt take long.Friend had both bearings replaced ,400 bucks per side.GM has a problem with these bearing failures. My sons GMC just lost the engine at 133k,coolant in one cylinder.Flex plate cracked all around.I have heard of the 1000 buck fuel gauge problem in GMC and Chevy trucks.Might be better to trade your truck in before the engine fails. My 77 Chevy C20 went 250K miles before salt got the chassis,No major repairs while I drove it,I bought it used and put 90k on it.If I could find another truck like it that was rust free I would buy it.
