OT, my lead cows got a spot/bump...I don`t know what???

Noticed a day ago she had this bump. Gave it another day "hoping for it to be a bug bite". It`s gotten a bit bigger today. She`s Very people "friendly" (to ME for sure, My First cow) cow thats Never had any problems. I have attached a picture. The spot is in the mid section of her belly, towards her back. It is not hot to touch, and she did not wince when I touched it. Any information, or advise that you can share is much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Gilbert

Hi Gilbert,
You have a great looking cow there. I guess the situation depends on a few factors.
1. Her age.
2. Size of calves she produces for you.
3. Maternal traits she has.
4. Has she been profitable for you.
These are just some things I would think about if she were my cow. At least put her in a chute and consult a vet asap. Seems like she is very fond of you. I had a cow like that also one time. It is very hard to have to make a call to the vet, especially if it means cull time. I have been there and done that. Good luck. Keep us posted as to what she may be wrong with her.

I think a Vet would be your best approach,My old dog has those, just benign lumps but you cannot assume that is.

Thank you for responces!!!

Could be just a bruise,.or a infection.
Stick a needle in it, see what you get ,puss or blood.
If it is puss it may need lancing.

My horse got stung by a bee. She had a pancake type welt about 5 inches in diameter and at least 1/2 high. Took over a week to go down.

Probe the area and see if there is a hard spot in the middle. If so, my guess is its a bite or sting.

Had a similar thing happen to a bull that was staying here a couple of years ago.We were offered a good bull for keeping him for the summer so I got the owner over right away because I had never seen this before. We figured bug bite or bee sting and the bumps went away but took a really long time.Later I noticed a bee nest inside the tubing of a hay feeder. An old cattleman later told me that this sort of reaction to a bee sting does occasionally happen in cattle.I assume that some are more sensitive or somewhat allergic to bee stings. The bull was a Red Angus and your cow is Angus cross but none of our cows have Angus blood and were not affected so I wonder if it could be specific to Angus cattle. The bull had 3 bumps on his body and one eye swelled shut at first but with time made a full recovery. He didn"t get any sort of treatment partly because he was a bit grumpy for a while and when we went into the pasture he acted as if he had to protect his cows from us.
