Well I am ready for battle with the coons. I have my temp pen all ready. I made 10 10' panels. chicken wire on the inside and 14 ga weld wire on the outside and top. Have one cage trap and two cooon cuff's and a cow bell I hang on the top. 60 meat birds arrived last saturday and as soon as the nights are warm enough they will go out into the temp pen. We need rain so badly (NW MO) - I am gonna have to water so they will have some grass!

Same question as Jerry, what keeps them from digging under?
You may have to line the bottom with chicken wire, or put a hot wire around the bottom. Coons got my roosters that were out loose and then came back trying to get in the pen. Put a hot wire around the perimeter and so far so good. Just used those fiberglass posts to hang it on, somehow I bet I burnt a nose or two the first night.

hog panels laid flat around the perimeter of the base will keep them from digging in. hot wire is great but if you do not have electric near by hog panels or similar material will work ok.
good luck.

I was taught by my uncle to leave a small light on in their pen. Predators won't kill if there is light on. I have never lost a chicken to a predator in the many years I have raise free range laying hens. My chickens roam all over the farm. I have light on 24/7/365 in the barn. Never had a problem yet. Even with skunks or coons. Hope this may help you. Good luck.

Your meaties will make a lot of poop and you will be amazed how gross it will be in a very short period of time. I move my pens daily and butcher at 8 weeks. You will love the taste.
