Hello I'm 16 and looking to start out farming 50 acres. We used to farm 700 acres at one time but 10 years ago my grandpa got sick and we sold the equipment. We kept the 560 diesel international but sold everything else. Now I'm rounding up some equiment. I have a 4 bottom 14inch plow,10' disc and a 12 foot cultivator. I want a cheaper backup tractor like a 560 gas around 60 hp. I'm looking for so thin around $2500 can I get a 560 for that? I would love suggestions on tractors that would run around $2500 Thanks

Kyle, location is the most important part of that question. Here where I'm at 2500 might get you a 560 gassed but it isn't going to be in very good condition and you would have to spend some money on rubber real soon.

Cheapest 560's I've seen advertised for the last ten years start at $5000 and go up. With todays prices, you would be better off to sell the tractor and get a job in town. I am glad I sold out when I did.

I would think that you could get a 560 gas for about that money it wouldnt be a looker but it would get done what you want to do, and as for just sell the tractor and get a town job don't listen to that, obvisouly in his eyes there are alot of people who should sell out and just let all the big farmers have it all well that is total bs, I have 40 acres and 12 head of stock cows and I work at an implement dealer so farm your ground and don't sell glad to see there is more guys who want to have some ground on the side

Kyle,Forget a 560 gas.Spend a little more money and get a 706/806 diesel, etc.Soon you will want to add some more acres, the bigger/newer tractor will do that.A wise old man once told me "a bigger tractor will do everything a smaller tractor will do-and MORE"He was right.

Kyle here in central Iowa you can find 560's in your price range, private deal, not from a dealer.

I agree with the other guys, a second tractor isn't on the need list right now.

What are you growing? I've been told the best bang for your buck for a low end starting operation right now is a mounted sprayer and an older no-till seeder. Contract out the harvesting. Put up some storage and an older dryer. Bigger percent return on investment than the big boys.

Kyle I owned 40 acres for many years. I cash rented to my cousin and then helped him farm it. You're going to need wagons, combine, planter, sprayer, etc. Try to find a neighbor or relative you can throw in with using your tractor and implements. Work out a deal where you help each other and split the crop accordingly. A great way to learn how to farm.

I'm with cowman. Keep the $ in the bank. Use your 560 and the money for repairs. In my neck of the woods 6 row wide equiptment is really cheap and don't let anyone b.s. you that you can't raise good crops on 36". Get a bigger tractor when you have saved up a little.

I totally, totally agree. I have used gas, propane, and diesel and diesel absolutely hands down does more work for the fuel used, can buy it with a farm tax discount, and diesel engines, if you keep the fuel clean and oil changed within reason will last forever and are very low maintenance.

On backup, I have a small farm and retired in '05 from industry and '07 from custom haying. I downsized and in doing so bought a 65 hp compact tractor with cab/air/4wd/loader. It does a lot of work around here, but there are still some utility tasks that my 2 open station Ford utility diesels do. I can't really do without any of them. Well, I guess I can, but don't want to.
