Hello, i have a 24 volt system on my 3020, and it is giving me nothing but problems. I am thinking of switching over to 12 volt. Any feedback anyone could give me would be great. thanks

I have switch many over to 12 volt. There are some aftermarket kits now that are more reasonable in price. Just stay away from the gear reduction starter ones if you will need the tractor in the winter. The kit is several hundred dollars cheaper but it doe not have the torque for real cold weather.

I also don't like them set up with a one wire alternator. Take the time to wire it so that the switch will activate the alternator. That way you don't have to rev up a cold motor to get it to charge.

I agree, the one wire alternator has it's place ( a machine with an ammeter or voltmeter), but a new generation JD with only the charge light is not one of them.

Wire the alternator so it excites from the charge light, then it will start charging at lower rpm and the original charge light will work as intended.

Also why would anyone want a one wire alternator on a diesel? I like the Delco but aleays wire it with a light except on a diesel which does not need the light

The question I have is why do you need to rev a cold engine?
There is usually plenty of time to let it warm up a little and Then rev it up and get it to start charging.

Because on a new generation JD, that gen light is your only indication of if the charging system is working, no ammeter or voltmeter on those tractors.
