Dave 2 - your kinda people

I think we are all familiar with the trials and tribulations of people when it comes to buying and selling things including your experiences as you are always so kind to post those current events for us here LOL !!!

That said, I have a car that I have been trying to find a home for, its a '91 Mercury Capri, like some people, she kinda fell apart all at once, motor, trans good, had new tires, oil always changed, taken care of, but not roadworthy now, hate to even say it, but its a parts car or one heck of a project for some one interested. There are not a lot of these, only made '91-'94, but have a following, parts are not cheap, so I figured I'd try to find someone who needs a parts car, I did, saw the person in a parking lot, and he lives in the neighborhood, back in late March or early April. $200, car and extra parts, one door, extra wheel, tailights mine has a turbo, his does not, price a motor for one of these on ebay, though finding a buyer might be like finding hens teeth.

I'll take it he says, ok, so I park it at the end of road, make sure it runs, tires aired up, been sitting. Don't hear from the guy, few weeks go by,he calls back, "hey you still got that car?", Ok, I will be by to pay you and pick it up, several weeks go by, get another phone call, same thing, hey would you take $150 for it ? LOL .... now I'm thinking Dave 2 all the way here! That was yesterday.

Now I could have played hard ball, but I just want this thing out of my yard, and to someone who needs the parts. The local junkyard told me years ago, he would have given me the last one they had in, as no one needed parts off, it so they crushed it, so either I call a scrapper and there ain't much metal on one of these or keep fooling with this guy on it, there is no real rush or the town is on me about it etc. I told him the price was firm, when you have the money and the time to get it, call me ahead of time and it will be here. I had not listed it yet, so not sure if any other capri owners are around, but was going to if he did not call yesterday, we will see if weeks go by or not, if so this time I will list it, I just wanted someone to benefit from the parts, and no money lost or time lost, I cut people right off at the first sign of wasting my time, it rarely if ever happens. He said he's off this weekend, his buddy with a truck can tow it, but during the conversation, he said he will call periodically, I'm like ?????? ok, well it will be here, that don't mean I won't list it and try and sell it if he dicks around too long, people are funny to say the least !

You need to study and brush up more if you wanna learn how to handle people....

There's still hope... just be there when he wants to pick it up... Strike up a conversation and find out which parts he's most interested in, then give em (the parts) a few well placed bashes with a sledgehammer and throw the guy off your place... Sell it for junk and get more out of it, or just call a scrapper to come pick it up........

Dont worry you will sell maybe not to this person. external_links cash for clunkers has killed rebuilders, the clunkers had to be sent to the crusher (no parts retention) in order to get the cash. no used parts available. I searched for over a year for a 2.5 L engine for s-15 gmc p/u. could not find one. had to rebuild old one for the second time, bored 60 thousand.I hope it holds up,pretty thin.

we've had a 2.5l statched away for over 20years that has 1500 miles on it, it's not stuck. was planning on mabey using it for a truck for my son, but we found a later model truck.

Frustrating as hedoublehockeysticks, ain't it? And I have a bunch of old cars way out back and every week or two someone pulls up and blows the horn and wants to know if this one or that one is for sale. If I drug them one by one out front and put a for sale sign in them, no one would stop.
A couple of weeks ago I put a young goat on CL. Half dozen folks call, all with a different story but with the same ending. They either never call, or never show up. I hear "can you meet me half way?" Nope, did that once and no one showed up.....never again.
Much to my surprise I get a call this AM asking where I'm at, which is about 25 miles away. They say they will call me back, and I think yea OK heard this before. About an hour later they call again, said we are on your road (I didn't give the address first time) and want to know how to find us. I tell them, a few minutes later they pull in. Look at the goat, said "we will take him". Never argued price or anything (which was already price very fair).
Then I realize there is hope, but you have to have patience! Oh and I assumed they planned to BBQ this guy but I was wrong, going to be the daughters pet. Go figure.

I know it's a bigger car but my dad bought a new car a few weeks ago, traded in his 98 Taurus with 300k+ miles on it. The dealer offered him $800 in real cash trade in so he called the scrap yard at the river port before make'n the deal. They said it would bring between $300 and $350.

I learned not to waste time with diddlers years ago.Woman stopped to look at a picnic table I had for sale at 10 am .Said she would be back to get it at noon.Friend called later for a table, told him I had just one and it was promised. He said he would be going by to get some fertilizer.I said stop on the way back.If she dosent show its yours. On the way back he gave me a check.Too much on his truck so he came back with another truck. My truck was apart so I couldnt haul it for him.Woman never did show.I have been in business since 1966 here.I find that people who buy a table dont diddle around. They look the table over and pay me.If they dont have a truck I haul if for them free if close by or for gas money if any distance. Most give me twice what I ask.Two fellows stopped that do dry walling.Told them 125 plus tax.He said Ill think about it.That means he thinks the price is too high.I told him there are 2 places that get 140 and my tables built better. The buyers dont waste time or make low ball offers. The best one I ran into was when The local Mail carrier said she wanted a table. It was late fall so I made a special trip for the lumber.Told her when the table would be ready, she never showed.Saw her in april she said I want a table.I told her I would start building in 2 weeks.I asked her what happened last fall. Her husband thought it was too much so he patched their old table. Her daughter sat down, the table collapsed and daughter hurt her ankle pretty bad.She handed me the cash and said let me know when the table is ready.Junk cars are bringing 300 and up here. Why sell for less to chislers.People are nuts, if you do business long enough you know this.I sold 250 wood stoves during the first fake oil crisis.I was selling a basic wood stove for 115.00 had an ad in the city paper.A hardware store about 30 miles away sold the same stove for 149.00 and had an ad right under mine.A fellow I knew in the town next to me drove past my shop and paid the hi price for the same stove.I asked him why,he said he didnt think I had any stoves.I told him I had eleven on hand the day he made the trip.
